Panarin is 0 for 9 on breakaways this year as per Staple's article (using Vally's stats). Thats insane for a guy who is 4 for 4 on shootouts. Ive been pumping the tires against Panarin all year, but he has been extremely snakebit this year and especially recently when he's been shooting more. We need him to snap out of this shooting funk

That is unbelievable for a player of his caliber.

Poor shooting luck for Panarin and others around him (Trocheck, who hes spent the bulk of the season with at ES and Kreider on the PP) are a big driver of why his production is as down as it is.

His overall play has been pretty lukewarm (at best) since October though. He doesn't have the same zip and flow in his game and he's back to being the same rigid, mistake prone guy that we've seen for the most of the last 2 seasons.

His underlying numbers with Tro are actually not bad (They suck with Zibanejad btw.) But anyone with eyes will tell you that hes had trouble meshing with everyone. He and Strome also sucked together before anyone brings that up.

More to do with Trocheck's poor shot selection than luck, he rarely passes and just gets tunnel vision and carries the puck into the defensemen and loses it or fires away stupid shots

Trocheck is on pace to blow away his career high in iHDCF at 5v5 so this is false (he's also 2nd on the team behind Kreider who is is probably going to break 100 somehow.) Hes taking high danger shots, they just aren't going in.

But everyone and their mom knows that Tro has had absolute horse shit shooting luck this year. The fact that he's still pacing his usual production is astounding.

And he's had to play with Kravtsov a bunch this year who does nothing on the ice.

Imo Panarin was very good briefly to start the year when he was talking about being everywhere, doing everything. He was actually doing it and was playing with Trocheck if I remember right. His issues are on him - he needs to play between the dots and be a shooting threat in addition to what he’s doing now because just this alone is very easy to contain

It's not even playing between the dots, Panarin has always been a perimeter creator (and that isn't an insult.) When Panarin is at his best he's able to wait things out long enough to open up lanes or shake around people to open things up himself.

Panarin's rigid version of himself is when he isn't patient enough to do the former and forces passes when he isn't able to do the latter. The reality is that he's probably physically declining and doesn't have the juice to do what he wants for an entire season. He isn't willing and/or able to adjust his game or at least hasn't shown that he is. He's been completely in his own dome on the PP recently but I'm confident that will work itself out.

Like you said, it's not the lack of Strome, it's not Gallant, it's not Trocheck - Panarin was a wagon in October with out Strome, under Gallant and playing with Trocheck. He needs to find a way to be that guy again. If its sitting out a few games here and there during the RS then so be it.

Because the two things don't have anything to do with each other? One he slows way the f down, the other he has to move as fast as possible to not get caught.

Did I seriously just read three pages of trade Panarin talk.

Umm, he’s very excellent at hockey.

He might top 90 this year. What a loser!!!

301 points in 235 games as a Ranger and people still can't keep putting their foot in their mouths because he's an off and on player on a team of off and on players, but keeps on delivering regardless.

The problem is that off & on are so distinct...

If his "off" were decent and not throwing the puck away constantly it'd be ok

If his "off" wasn't in the most important games... playoff games it'd be ok

His "off" seems to be when we need a 12M player the most and that's not a good look at all

High, high reward. He makes passes no one on this team can. People are yelling trade and I'm here like, just keep making your passes. There are worse players on the team that have their share of f*** ups.

Panarin's goal finalized one of the most amazing comebacks in Rangers playoff history.

The top scorer on a team usually will get paid the most. He's looked fine. Worth every penny. But yes, please let's keep bitching about the guy who, for better or worse, puts points on the board.

I’m not calling to trade him, not by any stretch of the imagination.

However, his turnover and too-many-men penalty that gifted Calgary two of their goals deserve a proper fecking arse-kicking. Sure, his good is really good but his shit will cost you points and I believe we should and could have won in regulation if not for his f@ckery.

It's a matter of bang for buck in a cap league and there's a point to be made that he's more of an issue than he is a solution here... especially at the 2nd highest hit in the league.

He doesn't appear to be able to play with anyone.

His recent chemistry w Zbad is a nice change tho.

Here's to hoping it continues and doesn't evaporate in the post season. If it does, I want him traded in the off season (that won't happen anyway so we're gonna have to tolerate it either way)

He redeemed himself later in the game

This is why there's a discussion

Yeah he gives the puck away like candy on Halloween...

But he also puts up points fairly regularly.

I think most of us would be fine w/him making 12M if he could just reduce the dumb shit (giveaways, brain dead penalties, lazy predictable play etc.)
