This is why I can't understand this fanbase. This guy has been the team leader in points since he arrived and has made the team just insanely better, but gets walked on because he had a bad stretch. Yet, guys like Laf who had a mediocre last season with had more penalty minutes than points, and a horrid first half of this season, get a pass because of COVID and his age?? GTFO. And there were plenty of people in the thread calling for a trade. All because of what? He has giveaways that rarely end up goals against?? Because he isn't trending to put up 100 points every season?

Give me a break. The top 3 in points on this team in order are:

Panarin: 59
Zib: 55
Fox: 50

The top in the team in giveaways in order are:

Panarin: 59
Fox: 47
Zib: 44

There are so many kneejerk reactions among the fanbase concerning our top producers and even our coach who is rolling with the best team W/L percentage since the early 2000's, and it feels like these reactions are a microcosm of the laughable takes you constantly see on the mains.
on a side note, I'd be curious to see a "number of giveaways" chart over the course of the season

It’s pretty representative of his entire rangers career except for the last 25 games or so

Yeah, he’s been a 3 and 4 goal game machine. Totally representative.

It was the best game he’s had in a Rangers uniform since his first season here. I’m perfectly happy admitting that and giving him full marks for it. Hoping that Tank being here really gets Bread going again.

However… how many career hat tricks does Bread have? It was a great performance. Representative of his career? Hardly. And it’s not like 4-5 point nights are either; otherwise he’d have a lot more than 96 points as a career high.

This is just hyperbole by someone who cares more about seeing a secondary assist from #10 on the box score than how Bread actually plays hockey. He hasn’t looked that good in nearly 3 full years.

How many guys have more primary assists than bread this year and since he’s been a ranger? You’re a rangers fan that logs onto a site to share your thoughts about the rangers and this is what you think about their best player.

Last night was great but before that he had 1 goal in like 18 games.

Hopefully this turns him around and gets him shooting more

Funny that some believe a one game outburst erases two months of playing well below your pay grade. Which definitely happened.

If Tank gets Bread going, I’d advocate dealing Goodrow, even for a late pick, and resigning Tank at a discount. He’s no longer a 7.5MM AAV + NTC player anymore; more like 3.5x2.

But maybe that still doesn’t allow us to resign the youngsters, in which case … bye Tank.

I actually think besides his opening goal, Tarasenko has been unsettlingly quiet.

You have to get value for your contracts and when a player is getting paid like McDavid but is producing like Tomas Hertl it's a huge problem; the kind that, if it keeps up, the best interest of the franchise would be to move the player. Even if your Hertl clone is leading the team in points.

Perhaps fandom includes criticizing your best players when they aren't playing well? Being a fan is more than about blind support, it's more about backing the right moves to win a Cup.

The skills are still there, but he's learning a new system and where to go on the ice. He excels at getting to open space and using his shot, as well as getting circling the zone and getting shots through traffic off the cycle. His playstyle is very dependent on good reads by and of his teammates. He also played <14 mins against Carolina, and the Rangers as a whole didn't generate much, although they defended well. Personally, I wouldn't read too much into the one game.

Perfect. This is a good defense of someone criticizing bread and his collecting of secondary assists. Why don't you or the guy that made the point tell me where he ranks in primary assists each year including this 1 since he's been on the Rangers. I don't have a problem with criticizing a player, but do it with facts not bullshit. That's exactly what the criticism I called out and your defense of it are.

I haven't taken a strong position one way or the other.

It does seem to me based on the analytics and advanced stats I've seen others post that Panarin isn't playing as well right now has he has in prior years for us, and that he's providing far less impact than his cap hit warrants, sans the Carolina game. If he can turn that around, great.

He's also 31. I would have predicted Panarin to stay at an elite level for longer like, say, MSL, but if he is in fact in decline already, well, he's 31 so that's not super surprising either, and we need to get out ahead of that, then. You can't have that player sucking up nearly $12m when you have other players to pay as you try to build a Cup winner. He'd have to be pawned off on a team that doesn't mind paying him for empty points during a time they aren't really contending.

I personally hope he does stick around and continue producing over a point per game like MSL till he's 38.

Bread might be the best Ranger's UFA signing ever. Including this season, he's paced over 105 points/82 games and is 3rd in the NHL in points since signing. He may have just gone through his worst stretch since coming to the Rangers, but that doesn't mean he's started a decline out of his prime. He's on pace right now to get 91 points and could easily finish the season with over 100 points.

If someone wants to claim he's just collecting secondary assists, show me the numbers. Until then, he's one of the best forwards in the NHL and a huge part of why the Rangers are a contender.

For all his faults, Panarin is still a 9M+ player in this league. He consistently produces enough to justify that value. He’s a slight overpay, not a major issue.

Here’s my actual value on the top dollar guys:

Fox 10.5M ( +1)
Zibanejad 10M (+1.5)
Panarin 9.5M (-2.2)
Trouba 5.5M (-2.5M)
Kreider 6.5M (even)
Trocheck 6M (+0.4)
Shesterkin 9M (+3.3M)

+0.9 overall

The big contacts are overall fine.

Panarin leads the entire Rangers franchise in points per game in his NYR career. 1.29 for him, the next closest player is Jagr with 1.15.
It just goes to show how good we know he could be that we continue to criticize his play this season. He's a successful signing, but still not performing at quite the height he was in the first season we signed him.

Looks like a completely differently player since the Tarasenko trade. If this is the Panarin we get in the playoffs, look out.

Im going to choose to ignore that Vladdy may just walk out the door in the summer and put 10 back into Depression mode.
