The dipsy doodle down the wing to throw a low percentage pass towards net front for a likely turnover is not going to work in these playoffs any better than it did last playoffs.

There are two problems with Panarin.

Problem #1- He's afraid of the dirty areas of the ice. Ever since the Wilson incident, he refuses to go anywhere--in the offensive or defensive zones--where he can really get nailed. He sticks to the outside, lags behind on the backcheck, and doesn't even seem to want the puck unless he's skating it out clean or jumping the rush to try and cherry pick. I don't know if his injury from Wilson was worse than reported or if it's all in his head, but he was a machine his first year here. He was hungry and fearless. I miss that player. He was worth 11m. This guy? He looks terrified half the game.

Problem #2- This problem is connected to the previous one, but is even more of an issue IMO. The team (Drury, Gallant, Quinn, etc) keeps telling him how great he's doing. He's producing at a rate not seen since his first year in Columbus. He's supposed to drive play, but the only reason the team went on a deep run last year was Shesty and some timely goals from the kids. They constantly tell him that they don't want to tell him how to play and that he is absurdly special and he's almost NEVER penalized by the coach/team even though he makes 5+ boneheaded plays per game that would get any other player benched. If he can get most of his stats while also avoiding the chances of getting nailed, and the team praises him for it, why WOULD he go into the tough parts of the ice?

If his problem is mental, he needs some help for it and the team needs to stop enabling it. They need to have the balls to tell him the truth about his play the last two years and get him playing like the guy who is the 2nd highest paid player in the league, who is literally making more money than McDavid this season. They need to tell him that, as good as they are, it isn't okay for Panarin to be tied with Kevin Fiala, Brayden Point, and Alex Tuch, for 28th in league scoring. And if he doesn't respond? Then it will be time to move him. The team isn't going anywhere with him playing the way he has the last year and a half, and it can't afford to have 11+m tied up in a player who refuses to play the game the way it needs to be played in the playoffs.

Perfectly said. He's gone from arguably the best winger on the planet while on the Rangers to someone you could pay 3/4 million less to do what he does. Drury publicly criticized Panarin and his playoff performance last year. Panarin was critical of himself as well. Has he done anything this year to make anyone think its going to be any better this post-season? People think moving Artemi is fantasy... Drury isn't shy, if he has another bad playoff performance on top of this subpar season it wouldn't be outlandish to think Drury could ask him to waive. They can make the money work. It's an unfortunate scenario because this team is far better off when Panarin is at his best. But the player right now, at almost 12 million a year is unacceptable.

Panarin needs a game on the 4th line to wake him up imo. Bowness just did it to Scheifele for Winnipeg and they are second in the West.

If his play doesnt change, the organization needs to tell Panarin in the summer that his ice time is being cut or he can accept a trade. It connects to Lafreniere's situation as well. 13 has been very underwhelming, but If Panarin isnt going to play D or score at a top 10 rate, the Rangers cannot let his presence further stunt development of a 21 year old 1st overall pick.

As a side note, I love Kreider, but the team may benefit from a breakup in the summer. It's the type of move that might not be difficult to make if you believe the locker room has become a little too comfortable

Scoring (2021-22) (goals per game both teams in total) is up like 7% over the low of the last five years. This season as of 12/28 scoring was up an additional 0.02 total goals per game over last year, practically the same. Where are you guys getting “skyrocketing” from? Genuine question.
It has skyrocketed from where it was during the early to mid 2010's. Then it took a jump from 2017-2021 and the last two years it's gone up even further.

I have zero doubt Drury will broach the subject and be more forceful if he feels it’s time to move on from Bread. How willing Bread will be to waiving his NMC if that moment comes is a big question mark. I’d assume pretty unwilling.

It would likely take boo-birds raining down on him at the Garden (which if he repeats last years PO performance, is certainly possible) for him to be amendable to a move. The fans not being happy along w/ a clear message that he’s no longer on top PP or getting more than 15m a game, could be enough. Now that we’re halfway thru the season, I feel that message from at least the coaching staff should already start being sent. That’s always the first step. See how the player responds, then go from there.

Bread Derangement Syndrome is too real. Lose him and you lose 50% of the skill on the entire roster, we would be the worst offensive team in NHL history. The problem is Trocheck and the moron behind the bench.
you cant really watch the games and think the biggest problem we have is tro....i mean that is one of the dumbest things youve written in awhile

panarin has the 2ND HIGHEST CAP HIT IN ALL THE NHL.....you can not tell me he is driving play out there

The problem is Panarin went from the best winger in the NHL to a good 1st line winger, and it really has nothing to do with anyone or anything around him. Barely over a PPG which is disappointing for him. He's still the most talented forward on the team but we need more out of him. Gallant does need to take him away from Trocheck and put him with Chytil, that is obvious.

Tro has worse tunnel vision than Julien Gauthier, the guy just skates straight into defenders and loses the puck. He never passes, biggest puck hog I’ve ever seen. He just gets the puck and skates straight into the middle and either runs into the defensemen or takes a stupid shot that’s blocked by the defenseman or he misses the net. He kills all offense produced by that line, Panarin is still setting up good plays but Trocheck is too dumb to make anything of them.

I’d say Trocheck is our biggest problem after Trouba & Gallant.

We’d get a lot more out of him if he were playing with Chytil or Strome. And he’s still pacing for more points than basically any of our forwards through the last decade lol. Last year he had like the most assists for any Ranger forward in franchise history and top 10 most points for a Ranger ever. And that was a down year where he was bad, according to HF. Players of his caliber don’t hit free agency that’s why his cap hit is high. And his cap hit wouldn’t be much a concern had we not spent the rest of the cap on bums like Trocheck, Goodrow & Trouba.

listen i will listen to you talk about krav like hes the second coming of jesus because i love the kid and have backed him for years. But your assessment of tro is flat out wrong. He plays a game that doesnt fit with panarin gliding around the ice not moving his feet getting over the blue line and throwing blind passes through the middle. This is completely on panarin, hes paid to make others around him better. Hes not making anyone around him better right now

trocheck is being paid 5.5 mil, but yet panarin is being paid 11.6 and is lollygagging around the ice.....connor mcdavid is making less then a mil more then him and has 39 more points with less supporting cast

his cap hit is a concern because there is a cap.....how the f*** can we pay other players when our most paid player refuses to play like it

He had similar struggles last season with Strome. He just doesn't impact the game like he used to no matter who his linemates are. But like I said I agree, he should be with Chytil. To be fair he is rocking his lowest on-ice SH% at 5v5 since 2017-18 and the lowest by far as a Ranger at 7.77%. So I guess just looking at the point totals isn't completely fair since he's been somewhat unlucky. In any case unfortunately we are never gonna see MVP Panarin ever again most likely, but I agree he's not close to the biggest problem. Two of those 3 are and the other might be one soon lol.

Youre coping with this one Jovo. Just look at it like Panarin is holding Kravtsov back and you'll see what we mean.

Trocheck cant cover Panarin's deficiencies, and because of that people think he's the main problem. He is slumping now but he's hit like 15 posts and still has more goals than Panarin. He's also a much better all around player than Strome or Copp. I think it's common knowledge that Gallant is not helping him by forcing him into a role he isn't suited for; probably some blame on Drury too for stupidly promising him ice time and top 6 minutes. The contract really isnt an issue either, it's market value at worst.

Since 2009 it has not been even a entire goal lower per game, both teams combined. I would not call that skyrocketing. Where are you getting your info? I posted a link earlier (on another thread where “skyrocketing” was brought up). It’s risen and fallen through this time period, but always been within a goal (total per game played) of where it is as of December ‘22.
Also it seems power plays per team per game is at its highest since 2009, 3.61 per team per game, which may explain why scoring is also up. Of course that would benefit the stats of players who get power play time, like Bread, over those who do not.

To me the biggest problem with Panarin is how the whole team defers to him. They see him open so they give a little dump off to the wing, but he's open because he skated himself into an area of the ice where he won't be dangerous. The side/back pass to him after the Rangers enter the zone constantly leads nowhere and it lets the defense get set.

I want to see Gallant tell the team to not pass the puck to him in the offensive zone (not counting the PP) for a game. If he wants to touch the puck he can drive to the net for a rebound/tip or find a way of getting the puck himself.

Have to knock that habit out of his game, at the very least not make it the default play every single time entering the zone.

For a guy who never passes,he sent bread in on a breakaway with a beautiful backhand pass...which of course you won't admit. The trolling game is strong with you

The second highest paid guy in all of hockey under-performing because of the guys on his line. That's certainly a take.
Particularly when he’s had around 15 different combinations to get him going and the only one that’s ever worked involves a guy who is now viewed as a cap dump for the team he just signed for.

I miss Zucc. He used to be the line doctor. If a player was struggling, put Zucc on his line and he could get them going. Panarin was supposed to be a rich man’s Zucc. Instead the 2nd line is where line mates go to die.

It's a sign

Really? He played awesome with Kane and I don't see Cam Atkinson complaining about their line pairing, He played well with Copp last year. He played well with Stromme. Could it be the rest of his linemates were or are shit?
