Player Discussion Artemi Panarin

Are the Rangers one kind of team if Ryan Strome returns, another if Andrew Copp is the second-line center and yet another if Filip Chytil gets a crack at a top-six role in the middle? Or do the Blueshirts need a more physically formidable second-line pivot via even free agency or the trade route? That’s what I believe.

But if there is a material change in the second line center’s DNA, Drury will have to measure the impact that would have on Artemi Panarin, who said that he will take what he learned going through this run and apply it to future playoff tests.

“For sure,” said Panarin, who for the most part was unable to be the same kind of influencer in the playoffs he has been during the regular season. “Tough situations make stronger people and soft situations make soft people.

“It depends on how you react. Things did not go in the playoffs how I want[ed], but thanks to God for the opportunity. I’m going to be better.”
I'll take him at his word.

He needs some 'redemption' next season. Hopefully he comes back with a chip on his shoulder.

Does Panarin need more body mass? I was trying to think of Stanley Cup champions that were of his smaller side in stature. Patrick Kane, MSL, and Tyler Johnson were the only ones from recent history that I could think of. All three are shorter than Panarin (5'10, 5'8, 5'8). All three weigh more than Panarin (177, 180, 185) The first two check about as much as Panarin with TyJo the only standout amongst the 4 that semi-checks (about Buchnevich levels) so I don't think Panarin has to add checking to his game to be successful. I feel like Panarin needs more strenght to gain that power confidence. The confidence to take a hit and shrug off an incoming body to make a play. The guy is smaller than Zac Jones and Nils Lundkvist for heavens sake. Does a star of his caliber ever get the "offseason training regimen" that the rookies and prospects will get?

He’s 31. It’s not happening.

I'm in my 40s. I gained 5-10 lbs at his age with little problem 🤣

Yeah but he’s already earning 12M per year and scoring 100 points. He isn’t going to change. He isn’t going to put in the work to be an animal and add 10lbs of lean mass to his frame. He’s having a vodka with Kucherov in Florida right now patting him on the back. The best thing for us might be that he doesn’t have a reason to party all summer with his boys in Tampa like he has the past two off seasons. He definitely isn’t going to put in the work that a prospect puts in to gain strength and size at this stage. He isn’t that type of committed freak like a Crosby or MSL.

I asked the AI system DALL E mini to come up with "Artemi Panarin eating at Panera Bread."

The results are as horrifying as you'd expect.

During the pandemic he was drinking vodka. Last offseason he was smoking cigs in Paris. I'm sure he had a few vodkas with Kuch too.

He ain't training like Kreider and putting on a little mass, but I think he will take this offseason more seriously so he can keep playing at a high level in the playoffs.

I’m sure a lot of it can be contributed to the Rangers PR Team showcasing their new star player but that offseason when he signed it seemed like we were getting videos all the time of him working out and talking about making sure he was in absolute tip top shape to show respect for the commitment made to him, if he did lose that a bit I hope this post season run leads him back to that mindset

So much worrying about the best forward on the team. Led them in even-strength points. There are a couple issues on the Rangers. Panarin isn't one of them.

Fact of the matter.... Panarin looked like shit under Turk. Was it just an 'off' season?

IMO Panarin NEEDS... ABSOLUTELY NEEDS... 2 north/south players on his line. This isn't 2019 anymore. You haven't replicated any of your success since covid started. Trocheck is one. I believe Laffy could be the other, where he has shown tremendous growth in his game and he can adapt to any style.

Panarin is a very smart creative player. Learn to adapt to what teams are giving you. Things should open up with 2 pitbulls on his line.

DO NOT GIVE HIM KRAVTSOV

DO NOT GET HIM KANE

stop enabling him lol

Idk man, they were pretty damn magical together.

And what's this talk of Panarin sucking the past 2 seasons lmao he paced for 113 & 105 points the past 2 seasons. That is greatest in franchise history level.

I like the Trochek signing as I'm happy we upgraded that position but i do have to wonder how much better we might have been with a healthy Strome last playoffs, i think the fact that he couldn't play ended our playoff run, and not just in the last game i think it was pretty obvious after game 2 he wasnt gonna be the same player and that drug that whole line down, Gallant should probably have sat him out game 3 and 4 and seen if he could get back going later in the series. Hopefully Trochek can stay healthy, his extra speed, faceoff ability and shooting ability should really help us.

The bad part about Kane and panarin is the complete and utter lack of defense. Both of them suck at it.. but Kane in particular.

But.. I'm intrigued.

I don't think Trocheck is nearly as fast as Ranger fans are claiming. Watching anything of him on YouTube he doesn't look fast at all. When you search Trocheck with the word fast online you just see some Rangers fans and Ranger blog calling him fast the past few days, nobody talked about him being fast before this.

Fun to watch in the regular season.

Who was Kane playing with when they won? Who did Kucherov play with?
