Mika has more PPG and PPP than Panarin the last two years (tied once with 10 less games). The CBJ PP was one of the worst in the league each of the previous two seasons. Why would we want to model a PP after that?

Since the lockout, the Rangers have gone through a couple of iterations, namely the Jagr years with no depth, and the non-Jagr years with plenty of depth but no elite gamebreakers. What makes me most excited about the next few years is, namely with Panarin, the Rangers have that star power and a golden opportunity to build the depth in behind him. It's always easier to do that than vice versa, which is essentially what the team tried to do in the 2012-2016 time frame.

That's a small sample and the Columbus power play wasn't Panarins fault completely. There were 4 others on that unit who couldn't put the puck in the net except for Atkinson. Look how well Atkinson's doing now without having the luxury of Panarin dishing to him.

Lets go back 5 seasons including this one and compare Panarins PPG and PPA Totals to Zbinejads numbers. Panarin leads 93 to 73.
It's easy to cherry pick numbers but everything changes when you look at the totals. Mika is good but Panarin is on another level.

I have no issue with Panarin playing right wing so Mika can stay where he's comfortable. Panarin is much more adaptable and will produce wherever he's spotted.
The highlights from last night show him scoring two goals on the right side.

Finally a few of the non believers here are starting to admit Panarin was a steal. Why you wouldn't want him for a team friendly deal and not having to give up anything but money is mind boggling to me.
His performance was never a debate. Ever. The reasoning that people were against signing him remains true today. Who wins will not be known for a number of years yet.
It's apparent many of the poo pooers never watched him play. I wonder if they were paying attention to how he lit the Rangers up in the past.
Ahh....more idiocy

With Panarin's contract, the argument that he was "a steal" will never be valid. He happens to be living up to it...for now.

That's actually not at all what the argument was about.

Look, I get that people have different opinions, and to tell you the truth, I still have long-term concerns about timing and depth.

But if you can't honestly remember what was the source of disagreement, considering the volumes of pages dedicated to this topic, with 90 percent of said pages clearly stating the source, I do have to seriously question if you actually read any of it.

So many intangibles come from having him. He seems to always be cheerful, win or lose. They feel comfortable enough to just let him be, instead of putting pressure on him by stitching an "A" on his sweater. He serves as an elite player who's right in front of the young guys, who's there every day in front of them, for them to aspire to be.

theres nothing not to love about this guy. Great, elite player at even strength, can both playmake and finish, great teammate, great sense of humor too, doesn't take himself or the game too seriously, just loves to play.
Is it possible he's the captain?
I love Mika too but Panarin is basically Ovechkin-level in terms of an infectious personality. Only thing is the language barrier

need this gif in Ranger gear

Panarin has been everything that we expected and more. He's expensive but he is their best player nearly every single game. If we didn't sign him this team would have at least 10 fewer points and he would be on the rival Piles instead. Think about that for a second. I'm very happy we signed this 27 yo stud.

He's been so good that whenever we have our Post Game thread where we vote for the 3 best players of the game, I immediately check Panarin's name and than I find the other two players...lol

Seriously, I can maybe and I do say maybe recall on one hand the times I haven't voted for Bread as one of our top 3 stars of any given game. He's been absolutely a monster this year and worth every single penny he's getting.

I'm of the belief that due to his not having as much wear and tear on his body, that tho he's 28, he's a "younger" 28 than 99.9% of the players his age which will allow him to be productive longer and his prime years extended more than what most players his age would have.

Only time will tell but if the rebuild goes according to plan and the Rangers are truly ready to be a Cup contender beginning 2022-23 or even 2023-24 at the absolute latest, tho Panarin would be 31-32 at the time, the likelihood of him still being a 75-85 point type player and integral part of the team is alot higher than most players 31-32 due to this not having as much wear and tear on his body which would make those who weren't in favor of us signing him wrong which I'm confident that they wouldn't mind admitting especially when we'll hopefully be celebrating a Stanley Cup...:naughty:

No. That is not possible. He is not a Captain type of player. It would be like giving Leetch the C ahead of Graves.

Panarin is way more outspoken than Leetch. They're comparable as superstars but not in terms of personality.

I'm always wary of a big name signing because I lived through the whiffs of late 90s. However, Breadman is worth every penny so far.
how many of those were actually in their prime stars? Holik was a horrible signing because he was never really elite plus he was a piece of shit Devil, and Lindros, Bure, Fleury were damaged goods or out of their prime already.

I often joked that the brass would try to sign whoever was on the cover of the EA NHL game whenever they became a free agent.
