I was just speaking generally, for the record. But on what you're saying now:

1) Who is they in this case? Gorton? Drury? Davidson? Are you holding our GM of the last two years accountable for signings our organization made twenty years ago? If your point is that maybe it won't work out, that's a very legit thing to say. It's inarguable. It's also not saying very much.

2) I'm not just listing. And it's actually pretty clear the characteristics these players share. ie. at 28, what kind of players were they? Where were they ranking in their positions across the league? What kind of impact were they making? Does it disregard the possibility that Panarin will age terribly and suck fairly soon? I'm pretty sure I said explicitly that's not the case. What crystal ball are you looking at? What are you going off of to say that this isn't as substantial as evidence in this kind of predictive work as what you're privy to or thinking primarily about?

It seems like you're evidence is that the Rangers and UFAs don't mix. So, If your point is that the Rangers are a cursed organization that rots UFAs as a long standing atonement of biblical proportion for trading Brian Leetch, then what can I say to that?
I don't think any of the assumptions you made were actually what I was saying.

Nowhere am I holding our current gm accountable for anything. I meant exactly what i said. I hope hes got a crystal ball the team didn't have in the past.

If you think 28 year old Richard's or that small list of names is a good comparable that's fine but I'm not convinced. Either way there is data floating around this board showing the very pronounced decline in production league wide starting at 28/29.

Theres similar data for elite players, using a MUCH better sample size which is why your list has very limited use. I'll try to find it but I'm away on a phone for most of the day.

There is variance but thats the point. No one knows how or why specific individuals drop off when they do. If artemi drops off by 30 it is not something i can predict with certainty and I have never, ever claimed otherwise. In fact i constantly have said in this very thread how he could last and my fingers are crossed.

It IS a significant risk to take on a player of his age for 7 years at that salary and I just disagree that this is the right time for us to have taken it. I also disagree (and heres why I got into this thread yesterday) with pretending like he took any kind of massive cap hit discount. He took a small cap hit discount. That's it. Nothing about blaming gorton. Nothing about pushing my opinion of a possible dropoff as fact

I really hope we win at least one cup with this group otherwise the next rebuild will be doubly painful

The concerns with Panarin are totally warranted and it's almost the exception to the rule that these players remain as effective into their 30's. Hopefully though by that time some of the youngsters will take the reign. I think that's the one key difference this time around... we have actually talent to fall back on where before our cupboard was either dry or lacking high-end talent and we had to rely on over the hill players to try and carry us to the promised land (which worked swellingly)

We could have waited, but players as good as Panarin don't pop up on the FA market every year so the Rangers probably felt like they needed to jump on the opportunity. Maybe for once we'll get lucky and get our money's worth

In the next couple of free agent classes (including this one this year), the only one that comes close to Panarin's age and skill level is Taylor Hall, and I'd rather have Panarin given Hall's injury history.

Exactly. In a perfect world the same age Panarin would have been available next summer and we would be ready to compete (or pretty darn close to competing) in his first season. But we don't live in a perfect world.

People are so scared for him, lmao. So many ridiculous positions online but usually they all get high-jacked by some troll bots.

In what regard? The fear-mongering by the media? Or Artemi's position?

(sry for asking, I'm pretty sure, just wanna make sure)

If his position on the team is in jeopardy because he dares criticize his dear leader.

Like all of Malamud’s articles, his piece on Panarin was written for North American consumption. He’s made a career of preying on people’s confirmation biases with sensationalism and stereotypes. I guess it’s what sells and gets people talking.

In reality, Panarin’s spot on the national team isn’t in jeopardy whatsoever. That’s just ridiculous.

It's not just a stereotype, I was born in Ukraine, I'm not some American that watches too many Bond movies.

I wish there were "highlight" videos of players making more fundamental plays, especially for defensemen. Like...I'm not really that bothered to watch Trouba's goals and stuff like that. I want to see the Un-Hightligthts Lowlights. "Random 5 Panarin Shifts 2018-19."

Too bad NHL.woat doesn't have full-game archives (maybe they do for Center Ice, Idk).

I have this really good feeling that Panarin is going to have a huge season for us. I'm not just talking point a game type of a season.

I'm thinking something in the rarified air at least for a Ranger player it is, something in the 90-95 point range. I've thought this from the get go and why I wanted Panarin so badly for us.

Quinn's system is perfect for him and that combined with fact he will have some excellent creative talent playing along side of him as well will serve him well. Besides Mika which is a given but don't be surprised if Kakko plays on that line as well for most of the year and that KK ends up scoring 60+ points himself and wins ROY going away...just saying!

That Panarin video was literally terrible. Aside from the goal against the Rangers, the rest were just normal one time shots and a set play dump in

They have a thing where you can rewatch games for like 10 bucks

I’ve watched a bunch of Panarin games thus far

One of his better highlights though I guess it was the 2018 season was that OT goal where he made a rush down the ice and his shot was just this barest flik of the wrist and it went top shelf far side.
This one

That shot is just insane

NHL.TV aka Gamecenter lets you watch every game from the past season.

Also, there's a sub-reddit devoted to a program that gives you access to all the games free, with most being available for replay that you should be able to find somewhat easily by Google if you don't wanna pay.

He had no angle to spring his teammates for a breakaway so instead he banked it off the endboards into the slot for his teammates to get to first...it was.. actually pretty damn amazing and something I've never seen before at any level.
Ranger’s try that similar move with Kreider a dozen+ times a season, he just never finishes.

It's not the same thing as a dump and Chase or an area pass. The guy was clear for a breakaway but panarin couldn't get the puck to him.. he didn't just dump it in he put the puck off the boards and right back into the slot. It's really a remarkable play.

Agreed. Panarin's ability to chip the puck off the boards and out of our defensive zone when he's pressured by an opposing forward is going to be a key to our success. He will have plenty of fancy, highlight plays, but I also want to see him be a cerebral assassin, tricking someone into touching the puck thus negating a Rangers offside and then scooping the puck up for a break-in chance.
