Was expecting Kravtsov discussion to be in this thread, am sorely disappointed in HFRangers.

Really can't wait for Training Camp, more than almost any previous one (Post Lockout '05 takes the cake).

I love the fact he clearly wanted to be here. He could have made more elsewhere so this wasn't a clear money grab. I honestly didn't want him to begin with (based on time frame / wanted another top 3-5 pick), but he's inked and I'm psyched to see him play.

On a side note, I'm wondering if he sent out the video of him flipping off a boat, and the Rangers called the agent and said "Post a video in the gym in a Ranger shirt and/or out on the ice in a Ranger jersey."

Artemi and Artem is the same name in the same sense or same fashion you’d think Nicholas and Nicolas are the same. Artemi is more archaic Russian that was “modernized” at some point (20th century?) to lose “i” and turn into Artem.

Even I have to admit that his story (if true) felt a bit compelling. Still not sure if I like the signing cause he's not in the same age bracket as the two most promising guys in the team and thanks to him the tank bled out, but I have nothing but respect for the guy. To come around from such conditions and land on the top of the world, that's quite amazing and really takes one bad arse of a man (if not for a boy in this case), who's not giving up no matter the circumstance. With Panarin on board at least it should be interesting season to look forward to, instead of just checking how the youngsters where doing.

If you are very good at sports, you can make a lot of money in America playing sports.

Interesting. I remember someone saying that "Yegor" was kind of an old name that had been modernized, as well. Is that true?

Yegor is a really old Russian equivalent to the Greek name Georgios, because in old Russian language soft g can't be first letter of a word.
Neat. That makes sense, as well--I remember some people said it would be "Igor" instead, but the person that said it was an old name also said Igor would not be an appropriate translation.

I'm excited for 7 years of "WE PAY HIM TO SCORE GOALS" complaints.

Had a year off from it last season, but it's the narrative we need back at HFNYR.
Inject it into my veins. Who cares that even if he scored 0 goals last year, he'd still be our 2nd leading scorer?

For once it'd be nice if it's only 1 or 2 years...or heck...none.

Also (just a general point here, not directed at you) the narrative that he took less money is a little dishonest. Objective fans laugh at it for good reason.

He took a LITTLE less money while still taking a TON of it. The much more important and more on the nose narrative is that we still overpaid bc that's the FA game.

We just overpaid by a LITTLE less than the other team would have. Other fans who do not have skin in the game see this and laugh at the very real possibility that "OOp! There go the NYR again, signing their next albatross!"

When discussing an overpay I really think that it is not important whether or not another team was going to give him a little bit more. One organizations stupidity should not be used to justify our own. If I throw a fork at an electrical outlet, I cannot defend myself reasonably by pointing out that someone else was going to directly jam it in. A risk is a risk.

It matters much more whether his performance lives up to his pay.

Unless he lasts at this level for the entirety of the contract then he will be overpaid massively compared to his actual performance at some point.

I still have my fingers crossed he will actually increase to a 90-100 point player and carry his line for the next 3 or 4 years with only a slight dropoff to the 70/80 range in the last few years. That'd be amazing. Or he could dropoff to the high 60s/low 70s within a season or two and plummet from there. That'd be typical NYR

I'm in tears right now.

And what the heck does "People who write that I am heel, and Alice chose the club for me, should be beaten from the turntables" mean?

It sounds fantastic though.

Looks like he left roughly $7M on the table

Made some sense with Nash at least. Had more goal than assists in all but four seasons. Which is a pretty interesting number IMO.

But ya, it’s gonna be particularly stupid if it’s said about a guy who generally doubles his assists vs his goals. I have a feeling though that Panarin isn’t going to have any but the 1% of degenerate Rangers fans complaining.
He’s gonna be the best player we’ve had since Jagr.
