I don't really think I want Buch getting the minutes that line will get. Not sure why he's a fit, there.
because I don't want to just shove Kakko or Kravtsov onto the 1st line right away.

If they earn it in camp, then give it to them.
They can earn a spot at camp, you earn top line minutes in real NHL games
The optimism in this thread is worrisome. Must be some young bloods. Things never, ever go well when we sign a big-name UFA to a massive contract. When Gaborik, who only had two healthy seasons with us, is touted as evidence to the contrary, you know things are bad.
scored 40+ in 2 of the first 3 years which is extremely rare for this franchise...
Our sentiments are in more agreement than you think. The bar is low for us when it comes to UFA signings.
He has not earned a spot. He has earned a really long look at camp there. Thereafter, it should be entirely up to him if he makes it.I'd argue that under that standard, Buch has certainly not earned a spot like that.

Also the idea that being on this team rather than another predestines a specific outcome for a player is superstitious sillinessWhy is it worrisome? What is it to you if fans are optimistic? This whole "other people are optimistic this a huge problem" mentality on the message board is not a positive one.

Why does this sound so familiar? He has not earned a spot. He has earned a really long look at camp there. Thereafter, it should be entirely up to him if he makes it.
I was reading about Anisimov trade rumors and a question came to mind.
Is Artemi and Artem the Russian version of, let's say, Billy and Bill?
Because we just went through this with DeAngelo last year. In various guises. If Buch is here, be prepared for the same thing if he does not play on the top line immediately. Why does this sound so familiar?
They would have had someone to lean on if he was not here. They could easily lean on Kreider and not feel pressure. That is a top line wing. That is NOT a reason for wanting someone at all cost. And what if "all cost" would have been $14m?this is why from day 1 I wanted Panarin at any cost. Not just because he's elite but because it will be soo good for our youngsters to have him to lean on.
If one of them outplays Buch (providing that it is he and not Kreider) that is here, then that is on Buch to figure out why he was beaten out by an 18 year old.because I don't want to just shove Kakko or Kravtsov onto the 1st line right away.

That too. don't worry. The same gnashing of teeth will happen this year.Because we just went through this with Buchnevich last year.
What you just did is prove his point while thinking that you were proving him wrong by arguing against a point he didn't make.gaborik signed a 5 year deal...scored 40+ in 2 of the first 3 years which is extremely rare for this franchise...then in year 4 was turned into brassard who was really good for us and then turned into zibanejad. if you don't think that signing turned out beyond fantastic both in the short and long term than you couldn't be more wrong.
Why does this sound so familiar?
