Nice video of Panarin highlights from last year’s playoff series. Some goals/assists but mostly just him creating offense. His zone entries are absolutely breathtaking.

there is obviously risk with the contract toward the end but man is he gonna be fun to watch...

most people are hoping to see what he can do with zibanejad cause if they click it could help take both guys to another level...but I'd really love to see panarin with chytil. panarin controls the play and drives the offense so much that it would take such a huge load off of chytil's shoulders attempting to play center.

I'm salivating over thinking about either one of our '17 boys shredding with our new potentially elite wingers.

The sequence at 4:35 is just plain filth

I think that IF Zbad stays healthy, the addition of Panarin will have many naming him "elite". He was fairly ridiculous last year as it was.

i think panarin makes him better either way....if they play together obviously playing with an elite winger will improve his numbers. and if they don't play together on some nights mika will get easier match ups cause the other team decides they need to stop panarin. last year there was no support from other lines.

Well this tidbit from Uncle Larry confirms and sheds light on the Rangers going from $11 to $11.6 million:

By the way? The $600,000 in cap space the Rangers cleared as a result of Vancouver’s buyout of Ryan Spooner represented the difference in the team being able to sign Panarin or not. Because without that $600,000, the Blueshirts were prepared to stick on their offer of $11M per, industry sources confirm.

Would 600k really be the difference between Jeff getting Panarin and not? If so doesn't sound like he was as committed to the idea as I thought.

Panarin would've signed for $11M per. He wants to be here.

There's something about the cap that always made me want to stay away (seemed too business-y for a game that's supposed to be fun), but the finance nerd in me wants to understand it better from a numbers perspective. Is there anywhere I can find all of the information on the cap? I'd like to create a model and then see how players would fit into the cap.

CapFriendly has FAQ pages you could read - NHL CBA FAQ - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

Or you could download the CBA and read that but it's rather painful.

Kakko and Panarin take a lot of heat off of Kravtsov, Andersson, and Chytil to have to be "the guy" this year. It will help them alot. Andersson and Chytil can keep developing at the NHL level, and Kravtsov doesnt have to step in and be Pavel Bure on day 1.

This is really one of those intangibles that money can't quantitatively measure.

eh, unlikely

600k wouldn't have prevented him from being a ranger

you dont lose panarin over 600k

I don't know either way, though the rumblings of looking at salaries for next season isn't really an out there concept.

However, what I do find interesting is the bump in the offer came very late in the process.

You do if you have drawn a line about where you can and cannot go.

Yeah those are my thoughts exactly. I don’t believe it was so much about loosing any one player for 600k as to this is how much we’re willing to pay and don’t try to play negotiation games with us.

Panarin and Zib seems like a great pairing. A playmaking wing like Panarin setting up Zib for those one timers is going to be a treat. Stick Buchnevich on the right and i'm hard already, hope Quinn doesn't separate them to "spread out the scoring", i can't stand that shit.

I don't really think I want Buch getting the minutes that line will get. Not sure why he's a fit, there.
