Do you guys consider Zub to be a top pairing dman? Like a #2? #3? #4? Bottom pairing?
To me he's the closest thing we've had to a Methot type player in the sense that he's not offensively good enough to be a top pairing guy, but he does all the little things well to help slow down the pace and let the rest of his linemates do what they need to.

Him and Chabot should be a pairing imo, but on this roster he's on the 2nd pairing because we need to spread out what little talent we have on defense throughout the pairings

I'd have thought at worst a #3
He needs to be either more physical or more offensively ambitious to be a top pairing guy IMO. As a 2nd pairing guy he's perfect. No glaring weakness, just solid all around.
Yeah I thought he would be more ambitious offensively given he got lots of goals in the KHL. Maybe they knew how solid he was defensively and told him the team has Chabot and absolutely needs a guy who they can rely on consistently to be a rock on defense so he focused more on that.

I'd consider him a solid 3, but can play on the top pairing just like Methot.

So do you consider him a top pairing guy talent wise or a middle pairing guy?
He’s a complement to either an offensive 1st or two way partner in either of the top 2 pairings. He will PK and can eat up to 20 minutes at even strength.

He's a #2-3 and a damn good one. One of the most valuable player on the roster and the hardest to play against for other players.
He’s been subpar through preseason and the first 2 games. Chabot isn’t the only one struggling on our top pair.

He's a solid #3-4.

Two seasons ago, he looked like he had #2 upside, but last season he regressed a little bit, and this season in the very limited sample size, seemed to regress even more.

You don't give a huge long term contract to a player that's regressed two season in a row unless you want another Zaitsev situation on your hands.

I don't think that Zub has regressed, but with the matchups he is now playing against much better talent his lack of offence is much more evident even though I still think he is a very good defenceman, just not top pairing D. Zub is a shutdown defencemen & it's rare to see them playing on the top pairing although he is the best of the bunch on the right side at this moment in time. He would likely thrive more on a 2nd or 3rd pairing, he doesn't have the offence for a top pairing role IMO.

Much better from Zub and Chabot tonight. Still seems like they aren’t in sync yet but individually they were better.

He has more goals than the rest of our defensemen combined.

He is a part of the personality of this core, he needs to be signed.
It’s hard to imagine he doesn’t want to sign here, love to know why it hasn’t happened or what conversations have happened.

I don’t think having two offensive guys on the top pairing is such a good idea anyway.

Especially when it comes to cap management.
Yeah, Zub is an elite all around complimentary player.
He is a perfect partner for either Chabot or Sanderson.
