Ondrej Palat named rookie of the Month for January, 16 points in 15 games. 208th overall in '11, last round pick after being passed over first two drafts he was eligible.

Remember next time someone smart says 7th rounders are not worth much.

Some guy won the Mega Millions remember that next time someone smart says that winning the lottery is hard.

You are not getting my point, my point is that why award a point for losing. Winning a game should mean a lot , it shouldn't be devalued by getting a point in OT/SO. I agree on the shootout, it should only be a point for winning that. No other sport rewards teams just getting to extra quarter or inning

No other sport decides games by a skills contest. To me it's not the same kind of win and not the same kind of loss in the shootout. Thus there should be different rewards. A 3 point system would include both.

Vancouver's recent collapse makes me kinda giddy. Remember those smug fans coming over here earlier in the season being all high and mighty...

Boston better hand them a 5th straight loss tonight.

I remember earlier in the season Vancouver won a game 6-2 and there were posts on here to the tune of "See Torts can coach competent hockey when he has a REAL team!" This was all while the Rangers were struggling in the West. I know the season isn't done, but I am so glad AV managed to find some traction without having to resort to that Stone Age garbage that supposedly is suited to our supposed "worthless players" like many of the hockey experts on here insisted.

Soccer does. And huge tournaments. I hate the shootout for both but to say no sport does isn't exactly accurate.

Just have it end as a tie like they used to and they split the 2 points. No need to go to 3 points but then again the 3 point system was not implemented to improve the game, it was done as a way to drive revenue so for that it has been pretty successful

Not that you are personally aruging it hard, but I don't think the "Standings would be this way under X system" works.

If the point system were any different, all the games would be played out differently than they were.

Yeah, this is definitely true, but I don't think the games would be played all that differently if they still ended in ties. The reason why this got brought up is because the Devils never seem to lose in regulation, but they are terrible in the shootout, so it's not like they're employing a strategy whereby they try to scrap their way to OT at any cost.

All you are really doing is convolutions things further in my view, easiest thing is to scrap OTL and only award a point for winning in the shootout. Shootout loses some impact in the standings and we clearly which teams are better by record. This isn't international soccer, it should clear how win and losses are determined and what the results are, you are rewarded for a win, you are not rewarded for winning.

Grabner should spend the entire offseason practicing breakaways... Feels like he averages one a game.... Just missed his penalty shot attempt

Also, did I hear during the Rangers broadcast that Chara is going to miss 2 NHL games because he's going to carry the Olympic torch for his native country or something? If I was the Bruins I wouldn't be too happy about that....

At this point i don't think the bruins give a **** what chara wants to do for all he's done for them.

Panthers are just having their way with the leafs. Up 3-1 and 46-21 in shots.

Good. **** the Leafs.

The Jets are doing great.

And some people say it doesn't matter which coach is behind the bench. That team tuned out the droll, ascerbic Claude Noel to the point where they might as well have not had a coach.
They are doing things differently now, and are obviously enjoying it. Maurice moves Buff to forward, pretty good idea.

Ottawa, Tampa, Craps, Canes, Leafs all lose

****ing awesome

Tons of time left in that Ottawa game.

Methinks the Caps, Devs, and Isles might be building a mountain a bit too tall to climb. Need to start seeing some of these teams drop out to feel comfortable.

EDIT: Ottawa ties it up. St. Louis blew a 2 goal lead in the 3rd at home? Wow. That... does that happen?

Piles built that mountain when they lost 9 in a row. Devils can't score. Caps can't do anything except pass it to Ovechkin.

As for Ottawa, I don't want a wild card spot. 2nd or 3rd in the division. Preferably 2nd.

I must say... you can say the West is tougher all you want, but this is why it is complete BS for the East to have more teams than the West. Could you imagine how much more confident we would feel if Detroit and Columbus were kept where they belong? Hell... even just one of them?

That would be quite nice, as much as I think Columbus would be a tough matchup. Personally, I would like to see PHI take one of the wild cards... and beat PIT. Have MON take the other wild card... and beat BOS. Epic sauce :yo::yo:

Bruins head coach Claude Julien said: "Zdeno told me and the General Manager Peter Chiarelli that he would be the flag-bearer for his country. Peter approved and had my support, as well. If you take a look what has been done by Zdeno, in the name of the club, it is an easy decision. He will carry the flag of his country at the Olympics even though he will be missed for two games. Giving him this exception is the least we can do for such a person."

Only a third rate organization would deny a player the once in a lifetime chance to carry their country's flag.

In other news, the canucks look like dog ****.

Looks like the rangers won the coach swap.
