Jamie Benn won't be suspended for his elbow to Matt Cooke's head. Can't say I feel bad for him.

I get that it is cooke, but I still wouldn't mind seeing some consistency from the league. Wasn't an elbow but looked like the initial point of contact was the head.

throwing a stick into the crowd, this is not the NBA where its known to attack the fans... given a 10 minute penalty unsportsmanlike conduct for Toews

I don't even think he meant to throw it in the crowd. It was broken and he threw it away but didn't realize how close he was to the glass. He wasn't even looking. Lesson learned the hard way though, next time just drop the broken stick instead of throwing it.

yea i dont think if he knew what he did.. if this was towards the bench i doubt the penalty would have been called. reason it was called because he threw it towards the fans..

When Labarbera was in the Rangers' system down in Charlotte, he was so pissed after a brutal period that he hurled his goalie stick down the runway as he was coming off the ice. It bounced off a wall, deflected up into the crowd, and clipped a kid. He got a 17 game suspension for that.

So I guess it wasn't obvious that Hartely maybe wanted to put a checking line out against a scoring line because that isn't a common strategy or anything. By your (and Torts') view a visiting coach is only allowed to start one of the lines as long as it isn't a checking line? bull

Hartley didn't force anything. Torts starts any other line, and calgary is forced to make a quick line change or get scored on. Instead he sends out Bieska to take the faceoff. Not to mention this is the 2nd time he has pulled this bs. It is ridiculous that a visiting coach can't start a checking line because the other coach is a huge baby.

You obviously dont watch Calgary games.

I absolutely loved everything about the Vancouver-Calgary game. So many talking heads in the media spouting off about something they will never have a clue about.

Nice to see a coach who gets his group to stand up for themselves.

Yeah stuff like that used to happen in the Norris Division five times a week. It's really not a big deal.

The bigger deal is that Hartley specifically started his goons and Tortarella acted like a maniac again.

He'll get suspended. The precedent has already been set. But still fun to watch and hear idiots like PJ Stock (the most useless goon in Rangers recent history) act holier than thou

Straight up. So many authorities want to comment on this without facts or perspective. He didn't send out a "checking line". It wasn't Boyle Moore Carcillo. He sent out a non-hockey, straight up goon squad. It wasn't a matter of, 'oh I ca send out better players and score'. It was 'wow, this line is only out here to hurt us'. It was a minor league move by a coach whose team might not even win in the minor leagues. It was bush league. Torts, being the flawed but no nonsense guy he is, wasn't having it, professional or otherwise.

Lol that was Kellan Lain's first NHL and he got ejected right off the faceoff. That sucks. Had family there and everything.

Can we trade coaches back now? :sarcasm:

Yeah, I've been waiting for the Tortscano to finally blow, and blow it did. Don't have a problem with the line brawl, but going into the hall outside the Flames' dressing room between periods was straight-up WWF stuff. No idea what he was thinking with that one. Still, rallying cry, team-building and everything else. Personally, I love his passion.

Also, lost in the hand-wringing and rending of clothes by the sports media and folks on the main board is that Alberts is still out with a concussion after the high hit from McGratten last time the Flames and Canucks played.
