And Morin as well who never panned out. I remember the boards here freaking out on how good and deadly the flyers defense was going to be. Glad they ended up sucking!!!!

They played us in the first round that year, and then things went sideways. They were a .500 team before dismissing Hextall, and later Hakstol. It's funny because they were on a tear under Vignaeult before play stopped.

I think it's great that OV is still relevant and doing his thing and chasing the record, but that has nothing to do with the fact that Crosby has been more effective at the sport of ice hockey than Ovechkin since late 2010. For those who can't count, that's 12 years running.

Eventually when the hoopla is over people will remember there were multiple years in what should have been OV's physical prime where he was not even a net positive for his team 5 on 5. Crosby's worst season was when he was 32 and played with an abdominal hernia in a shortened season and had 47 points in 41 games. Besides that his worst season was scoring 89 points and being decent defensively at 30. As for hardware since 2010, you can make arguments for why Crosby shouldn't have won the 2016 Conn Smythe or why he should have, but it's a slam dunk that OV should not have won the 2018 Smythe over Kuznetzov, nor did he really have any business winning the Hart in 2013.

They were very close, with a slight edge to Ovechkin, until the 2010 Olympics. Ovechkin has never been the same player after that, for whatever reason - I have my own conspiracy theories and Crosby then hit his physical peak, being two years younger than OV. After that it hasn't really been close.

I don't think it's ever really been a legit discussion. Ovechkin's the best goal-scorer of all time, imo, but Sid's a top-5 player ever to play hockey. Ovechkin's probably top-10, but Sid's clearly the better player who has had a better career in all aspects, NHL and International.

Outside of the Devils, nobody in the top six in the Metro loses games outside of the division. It’s unbelievable. Thankfully we have multiple games on hand with a few of them.
Super frustrating…I was praying the Caps and Isles would lose tonight…we have games in hand but both teams are only a point behind the Pens

John Carlson has been discharged from the hospital after taking a puck to the right side of his face against the Jets on Friday. He remains under the care of team medical personnel and is ruled out indefinitely. That ought to hurt the Craps

This is why it's such a stupid argument when people say "If/when Ovechkin passes Gretzky in career goals, does that make him a better player than Crosby?". The better player is the one who has been better for the majority of seasons head to head, and that's been Crosby for the large chunk of time after 2010.

The only thing Ovechkin passing Gretzky does is cement the fact Ovechkin is a better goal scorer than Crosby (and that's known even if he doesn't pass Gretzky). It doesn't mean he's a better overall player.

If Bruins beat Sabres for their last home game of 2022 they will have gone the entire 2022 season (this season that is) without a regulation loss on home ice. Now 2023 they lose a bunch.

Im not even sure the bolded is correct. Look at their career shooting percentages. If your teams entire game plan is to keep feeding one guy rather than winning, you could get even an average guy to some pretty lofty numbers. He hasn’t been a “great” player for a very long time. AFAIC, this shit where the entire team tries to get him open shots at the expense of the team is barely even hockey. It’s basically just a marketing gimmick.

I’m not sure I agree with the sentiment ther Ovie is the best goal scorer of all time. But he’s a top ten forward. He was a better forward than Sid in his peak years and arguably the best forward we’ve seen since Gretzky and Mario in a single complete season.

That being said, Crosby is the better all time player.
