Not sure they can spend any, when Guentzel is back they are right at the cap again. That's going to jumpstart the Pens offense, for sure. And I wonder if one of the stagnant UFA's winds up with a 1-year deal in Pittsburgh to soak up that cap availability.
Pitt isn't making the playoffs. Book itPit is still pretty old and now with a bit less Dcorps depth. They likey fall off a cliff down the stretch, and won't make the playoffs. Only NJ, Car, and NYR get in from the Metro.
It's almost if Shanahan has been holding the Leafs back.Damn. That’s a really good trade for Pittsburgh. Dumped a lot of their dead weight and picked up Karlsson and come out $3mil in cap space ahead of where they were for basically a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd pairing defenseman in Rutta.
I don’t think we can count them out of the playoffs anymore.
With EK struggling in SJ the last time Burns was there, I really wonder if Letang and EK actually works. That's going to jumpstart the Pens offense, for sure. And I wonder if one of the stagnant UFA's winds up with a 1-year deal in Pittsburgh to soak up that cap availability.

the Leaves get closer to being (in season) cap compliant
Wins a winFinal score of Sabres-Penguins is going to be 16-15.
My only concern at forward is a VO replacement especially with Quinn out. What youth is this exactly? Peterka is the only variable there. Who else? Krebs? He's not relied upon for offense to a large degree. Quinn is injured for at least half of the season. They reset of the lineup are veterans at this point (with the exception of Power). Basically you are looking for one body to grab that roster spot opened by Quinn. You have Mittlestadt, Greenway, Olofsson (please no) or Krebs that could move up the lineup. Someone from Roch could come in and take a bottom 6 spot.
At this point in the offseason, I expect VO to be the VO replacement. My only concern at forward is a VO replacement especially with Quinn out.
Tarasenko would have been a nice one year add.
Also someone a la Nosek who can win faceoffs and to replace Jost at 4C.
He was always going to be the VO replacement - he was never going to be moved because there was never a market for him. If Adams thought there was, he’s not good at reading the market. At this point in the offseason, I expect VO to be the VO replacement.
Maybe they can bring Jagr backGood deal for the Pens. Going for one last push with the geriatric crew.
I love when teams give you a look behind the scenes.
They talked to the Sabres about moving back (blues moving back to 13, Sabres moving up to #10)
Great video.
I bet that Adams was trying to move up to get Benson and he fell into our laps anyway. I know I was sweating every pick where he was still on the board.
Having watched Stenberg in two games live last week makes me think the Blues got a real gamer there.
Dvorsky was the guy the Blues took at 10. Stenberg was 25OA, the pick from the Leafs in the O'Reilly trade.
The following assets, in all likelihood, would not prompt Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney to raise both arms in excitement:
They were the trade returns in the past year for, respectively, Mackenzie Blackwood, Adin Hill and Ville Husso. Blackwood, 26, has 152 games of NHL experience. Hill, 27, backstopped the Vegas Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup in 2022-23. The 28-year-old Husso was the No. 1 goalie for the Detroit Red Wings last season.
- Sixth-round pick, 2023
- Fourth-round pick, 2024
- Third-round pick, 2022
None of them has won the Vezina Trophy like Linus Ullmark did last year. Such an award would surely add a premium to Ullmark’s trade value.
Consider, however, what the Golden Knights received for Marc-Andre Fleury on July 27, 2021, less than one month after the then-36-year-old won the Vezina: Mikael Hakkarainen, a fifth-round pick in 2018. Hakkarainen, 25, is retired. He never played an NHL game.
All of this is to say that for whatever reason, the goalie trade market historically favors the acquiring party. Sweeney, in other words, was unlikely to receive anything close to Ullmark’s 2022-23 superlatives — such as 33.44 goals saved above expectation, per Clear Sight Analytics — had he put the ace up for sale.
I do feel hockey can survive in AZ if they play in a proper location. Scottsdale, Mesa or Tempe would be ideal spotsYotes fans have been through a lot, they deserve to keep their team.
Yeah I’ll never root for any team to move. We lived with that for a long time here in Buffalo and it sucked.Yotes fans have been through a lot, they deserve to keep their team.
Given all the damage that has been done over the years, I have my doubts. Too many people hold grudges due to all the shenanigans of past owners and want nothing to do with the Yotes because of it.I do feel hockey can survive in AZ if they play in a proper location.
