Dubois (8x8.5 extended) for Vilardi, Kupari, Iafallo and MTL's 2nd in 2024

Good god that's a terrible deal for LA unless Dubois pulls it together consistently.

I guess I'm in the minority who doesn't hate the value. Vilardi hasnt shown he's a C yet, just a year younger than PLD, Kupari is approaching is what he is bottom 6er, Iafallo nice player but probably replaceable for 2 years & 2nd.

idk, unless its the term/$ people don't believe in, then ok I'm gonna go stare at Tage & Cozens contracts

PLD will be insulated more with Kopi & Danault, but I've never disliked him as much as many, yeah the inconsistency is maddening.

This is a very bad trade for LA.

It all depends on how PLD plays. If he finally puts it together for 70-80 games a year, then it'll look like a good deal.

And what did LA really give up? An up-and-coming kid who has had back problems and may or may not be a center........a veteran middle 6 winger.........a kid who's looking like nothing more than a bottom 6er.....a 2nd round pick.

If PLD plays well, that's a steal. If PLD does what he usually does.....they just killed a bunch of depth for no reason.

That really depends on how you look at it. Kupari hasn't done much and is basically a 4th liner. Vilardi had a decent year, but he's also gonna be 24 in a little over a month. Maybe he's a late bloomer like Tage, but that's doubtful. Iafallo is a solid player, but probably overpaid for their 3rd line if they feel they can get the same out of a cheaper option.

PLD could be their eventual replacement for Kopitar, and don't forget they probably want to feed Byfield more ice-time and hopefully Turcotte starts to show something more.

I just think PLD is overrated, it doesn't have many positives.

Well, I like Vilardi, he had a good season. And I think PLD is heavily overrated.

Eh, it's not really a great deal for either team - LA gives up a lot of ho-hum and then pays premium pricing for a player who really hasn't been a premium performer. I can see Jet fans being disappointed with the return - not a bluechipper in the lot - and the Kings signing a guy for north of 8 million AAV who hasn't been a consistent player and a bit of a malcontent... Eh. It's a trade.

You're missing that Hayes isn't that good PLUS clashed big-time with Totorella. Philly wanted him gone.

I think he's better than 3.5 million. You get trash for 3.5 million in today's NHL. I bet he puts up 60 points in St.Louis. Just dont understand why more teams werent involved since so much was being retained.

Hayes is a one-dimensional 40-50 point player who is a complementary player. That's pretty much a $4M AAV player anymore.

He fits decently with the Blues because he won't have to carry the load -- he'll be on a line with either Kyrou or Thomas who will drive the play. Maybe his numbers will inflate some, but there aren't many teams that want a one-dimensional complementary player.

Was it ever clear which first round pick was in play for Sanheim? And it seems like it was cap-for-cap with Hayes and Krug so I would guess Sanheim would be in play if the pick(s) are good enough.

They going to be able to keep the puck out of their own net? Their defense will be relying on 2 sub-21 year old rookies and goalies that are pretty questionable.
That's a very good point.

Buffalo is proof that an elite offense can only get you so far. The Devils are going to need some of their young players to step up big if they're going to make a cup run.

That being said, the Devils top-6 will be much better defensively, so that should ease some of their growing pains. They're going to be good. No doubt, but there are some question marks.

The Devils keep the puck. They did pretty well last year.. I expect them to be even better this year with a full year of Meier.. Hughes taking another step

The Sabres were done in by several players getting injured due to an insanely compressed schedule that was the result of a catastrophic natural disaster.
