That Timo Meier contract is going to be one of the worst in the league. I wanted him at the deadline, but now feel good about not getting him.

I really like Colton! Not that they would have ever traded him to us…or that we have a spot.
He was a guy I was really hoping KA would try to swing a deal for. Would have been ideal on the 4th line.
He's the kind of player a lot of us were hoping to shake up the bottom 6 with. Seems probable that re-signing both Okposo and Girgs locked us out of that opportunity.

While agree its not fair, billionaires arent buying teams because its profitable. They are buying them because its cool.
Well maybe for some its a fetish
NHL teams, sure. Other leagues are more profitable.

And while the owners definitely do benefit from the increase in franchise values, they typically only realize those gains if they take on a co-owner and/or sell the team. Otherwise I would bet the Sabres have lost well upwards of $100m since the Pegulas have bought them. The franchise valuation has probably gone up $800m but unless he taps into that equity it’s sort of worthless to him.
You think billionaires care more about equity than investment?

Steve Spiros? Easygoing?

Its Glenn Howerton playing Jim Balsillie in the Blackberry movie, after Garry Bettman tells him the league wont approve the sale of the Penguins to him. Only scene in the movie where he goes full on Dennis Reynolds.

Took over a team with a worse record than the one Adams took over. Finished behind Buffalo two seasons ago. Did stuff.

Adams had to completely strip the organization down to the studs and practically building the roster from scratch.

He added
Tuch
Krebs
Levi
Greenway
3 1st (Rosen, Ostlund and Kulich)
Traded up for Peterka
Signed 1C and 2C at a combined cap hit of $14.3 million AAV
Signed a #1 pair defenseman @ 4.3 AAV

That's still doing stuff... for future. I agree he needs to bring in pieces for the roster now but he's building for the future.

If there's one positive thing to say about Adams it's that some GMs have to be average. I think he might be slightly above average based on extensions and not actively damaging the team with trades.
Our drafting has improved now that our scouts are being used.
Luck will help us reach the playoffs eventually but I don't expect us to become Tampa, Vegas, Bruins or even Devils.

Adams has emerged as Claudius, King log.

Well, on the other hand, we have a lot of space in the cap, which will be needed later. I think Fitzgerald did a good job, but Adams just does it slower and differently. I want Adams to add top 4 D and goaltender this offseason like Fitzgerald did last season. Adams can no longer just drag out the rubber and rely only on internal growth and take risks like that. We haven't seen the playoffs in too many years.

Wait…..

he was hired a few months before KA

he had 2 younger 1OA draft picks

Tfgoli and Haula trades were a wash.

Palat is probably an anchor in 2 years.

Adams has to trade his 3 high picks from 13-25 for futures in general.

lets see what cap he’ll thry might be in a few years from now where RFAs are due for new contracts and Hischer is due to get re-signed

When they win the cup and go to the 2nd and 3rd round multiple times. You know what they will not give a single shit about? Being in cap hell, every decent GM gets out of it.
