It will be interesting to see if they can trade him. He's been around so long that he played for the Gophers with Okposo.

That Preds stanley cup team had Josi, Ellis, Subban, and Ekhlom, each playing 25 minutes a night, and all of them in their absolute primes. A blind monkey could have coached that unit to a successful season.
And Kreuger had Eichel, Reinhart, Dahlin, etc., etc. Sometimes the best coach is the one that knows to get the hell out of the way.

i think the Canes may go through a mini reset. Pesce, now reports of Staal at a contract impasse.

Watching the Canes a lot here in the southeast, they have a best team in the league in terms of team play. But they get to the playoffs and come up short. I wonder if they are thinking about a small reset, retool around Aho and the younger players? I also know they’ve been looking for a #1 D for a while.

It also feels like the players took team deals because the owner is cheap and still haven't seen a cup. so now they are looking to get paid and it doesn't seem like it will happen. Could be wrong but that's the vibe I get

So why would they want to go from one cheap owner to another :sarcasm:

I guess I missed it when Marty Walsh left the Department of Labor to run the NHLPA. Next CBA fight is going to be interesting.

Johanson at 50% retained is a really good pickup for a cap-tight team missing a second line center. He's a better fit there than Compher was last year.

Don't get this this trade from NSH perspective except its better than a buy out I guess.

Might as well nuke the whole team.

I agree. I thought he looked pretty washed last year before the injury, but hard to tell as the entire Preds lineup looked bad in the beginning of the year. If he fully recovers then that's a solid gamble for a vet middle-6 center at $4M.

I'm pretty surprised that Nashville couldn't get a mid-round pick or a B-level prospect with the retention.
