At least people aren't dying left and right, or flooding ICU's like back in 2020 pre-vaccine. Symptoms are mild, so I say the vaccine is working.

The unvaccinated are starting to overwhelm my wife's ICU. It's getting scary again.

She wanted me to reiterate that the booster is extremely effective against this strain though. Get boosted people!

Or the Omicron strain is simply more virulent but less lethal. The virus mutating into less deadly strains is the path to the end of the pandemic (like with the "Spanish" flu).

The first statement is true. But it remains to be seen if the second one is. It can happen. But that doesn't mean it will happen.

More deadly strains are completely possible, and anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't practice evidence based medicine or virology.

By "FULL NHL SHUTDOWN" they mean they canceled.....five games on Thursday. All Wednesday games already were PPD and there were no games schedules Fri-Sun.

They say it seems less virulent (waiting for strong data but initially it seems that way) so is this because so many are getting it we're going to see upticks in hospitalizations despite being less virulent? Are immunocompromised actually at lower risk with this strain? I have multiple family members who fall into that category as I'm sure many of us do. One faction wants to make this officially the common cold and I'm wary of that just yet.

I’m fine with getting back to hockey, and there would not be a need to discuss it here except it’s impacting the game I love and the morons in charge that have screwed things up until now are discussing doing the same foolish things again that didn’t work the first time.
