Sam Bennett plays with some good talent in Florida, but so many people did not want this guy when he was on the trade block. 20 goals in 34 games this year and 43 points in 44 games since the trade, over 2 hits per game. I would kill a puppy to swap Strome for him. Just not my puppy. Someone else’s puppy.

That was a giant opportunity lost by Gorton. With all the assets we had at our disposal, it was criminal not to be in on that deal.

Which Bennett would we have gotten, the one thats playing on a top team in the league or the one that struggled in Calgary, a team that seems better without him.

DeAngelo is getting PP1 minutes for the best team in the league, partnered with Jaccob Slavin, who is a rock defensively. Here he would be playing 3rd pair minutes with Nemeth and playing PP2 behind Fox. Hes also on a prove it 1 year deal so you know he's on his best behavior.

Hes a good player but his impact on this team would not be nearly as high
Our PP likely would be #1..I fail to see how that does not impact the Rangers as much as it did the Canes . I still firmly believe Tony is a better PP QB then Fox . Tony also has that great ability to skate backwards across the blueline on the PP with the puck in tow looking for the shot/pass ...it is NHL elite . Plus he can play with an edge and rush the puck . He definitely would have had an impact just by halving the offensive load on Fox . A more rested Fox would also contribute to the overall benefit our club would have experienced.....however it's all a moot point these days .

You may firmly believe he's a better pp qb but that doesn't make it true. Tony is having a good year but then again he usually does when hes looking for a contract.

Yes, Bennett was the problem in Calgary, not the coach they fired or the GM that should've went with the coach.

Bennett playing under Gallant would be perfect for the Rangers & exactly what this team is missing.

I wanted him !!! I knew what he was like in the playoffs...and now he brings the playoff game every night in Florida .

I mean, we are a top team in the league this year and Bennett plays with Huberdeau, who is very close to Panarin in terms of elite offensive production. It seems pretty clear Bennett needed to get out of a bad fit in Calgary. Will he be a point per game player? Maybe not, but I have no doubt he’ll remain a physical and intense 60 point player who brings it in all three zones.

I think he would have been a fit here too but he should have been in calgary as well so it's hard to say which guy we would have gotten, likely the guy in the middle of those two highs and lows, so maybe Goodrow is a poor man's Bennett.

everyone who joins Florida gets a huge boost. I mean look at Gustav Forsling he was a nobody and now he's like a top pair guy. They have a great system there. I wanted Bennett but he would not be a Strome replacement here, more of a 3rd liner.

Maybe. 20 goals in 34 games is a 58 goal pace (which he obviously won’t keep, but I don’t think that can all be attributed to Florida - if he played with Panarin here, I have to imagine he could do quite similarly). He’s been point per game since the trade, and he brings a lot more to the ice than Stromer. And even if he was a high end 3C who could slot up, that would be a pretty massive upgrade on what we’re rolling out these days.

We've all postured that anyone can put up points with Panarin but that has proven to be wrong. It takes a certain style of player, and while i believe Panarin is an elite playmaker it just doesn't seem to work with everyone as evident by the fact that we constantly have someone different in that 2rw spot.

Honestly, how was this kid picked 9th? How was he not at minimum a consensus top 5 pick in that draft? He’s arguably more skilled than Hughes, bigger, and plays center.

I really just cant deal with the fact that this kid was a Ranger until they won the lottery. It’s f***ing maddening.

It really is isnt it?

Imagine that kid on Broadway lighting it up like that. Tailor made for NYC. NY native too.

The real question is would he have the minutes in this lineup to show it

We also don’t have a lot of options. Milk toast Kakko. Hunt. Gauthier. Goodrow. Blackwell. Fast.

Buch was stapled to the KZB. We don’t really have a solution for the 2rw spot. It should be year 3 Kakko, but he looks like a lost lamb. The others are bottom six players.

The situation is different sadly, i think Lafreniere would be having a similar year in Anaheim.

If you truly think that, then that means you aren’t concerned about Laf at all long term. I don’t know what you’ve seen that gives you that confidence, but I’m comforted that several people feel the same.

I have 0 concern about Lafreniere...i have a little more about Kakko and a lot about Chytil

If we don't win either lottery we have Zegras and Anton Lundell...

We tried to get this type of player with Blais but of course he is out long term cause of Slewban and not one person went after him, Kreider did when Reaves got hurt. I also was hoping for a Bennett type of trade.
