Normally unless you’re getting a generational talent and even then it’s far from a guarantee (see oilers). I think player development at 17/18/19 is more important

With the way the Rangers develop forward talent, he'd be centering a third line of Gauthier and Dryden Hunt and looking like Lafreniere looks.
Quinn probably would have benched him for the flip over pass and the Michigan too.

Looking back there seems to be a lot of missteps that Gorton made that makes me wonder how much of it was not having full control of the ship.
It was supposed to be a full rebuild and then J.D. was made his boss and then it became a modified rebuild and here we are.
Davidson failed in St. Louis and failed in Columbus. Wish he would have stuck to being one of great memories from the 78/79 season and a great broadcaster.
