Looking back there seems to be a lot of missteps that Gorton made that makes me wonder how much of it was not having full control of the ship.
It was supposed to be a full rebuild and then J.D. was made his boss and then it became a modified rebuild and here we are.
Davidson failed in St. Louis and failed in Columbus. Wish he would have stuck to being one of great memories from the 78/79 season and a great broadcaster.
I don’t buy that. Davidson continued to preach patience, patience, patience. Gorton landed us some solid pieces, but he also had his fair share of misses, too. It happens to everybody. Sakic, too. Even Tampa. They let Miller go to Vancouver. They also let Marchessault go. What Florida is doing should be acknowledged by all front offices, though.

Maybe in five or ten years we’ll know? Either someone will reveal behind the scenes stories in an interview or someone will write a book.
Or maybe we’ll find out by measuring the success of the Columbus rebuild to the Canadians?
I’m basing my assumptions on the timeline from Gorton getting the G.M. job and the events that happened after Davidson got the President’s job and then the no trade TDL in 2020.
Small clue for me though was the Jack Johnson signing. Clearly Gorton didn’t want anything to do with that by his reaction in the press conference. When a reporter asked Jeff about Johnson joining the team, Gorton responded “J.D., you want to take that one “.

Tampa kills my three team parlay with Edmonton and Toronto. Thanks guys. And yea, you’d never see Shesterkin get beat four times in an eight round shootout.
Pitt killed me tonight. Had them, NYR, and Canes in my 3 team. 10 bucks i'll never see again

Vegas just renewed McNabb for 3 years @ 2.8M. Reilly Smith is certainly gone at the deadline, but IMO the likelihood of them also trading Karlsson just increased.

Both guys would be excellent additions to this team. I think Gallant could use a couple more of his guys. Reaves is great for the room but he's the 12th forward. Reilly Smith in particular has made a ton of sense since the summer.

I really like Smith, he's an extremely underrated, invaluable part of a contender...He's a great passer, has a very high hockey IQ, & he's an excellent penalty killer, but sometimes he just cannot find the back of the net for weeks at a time. With that said, he would be a tailor made fit to play RW with Panarin. The issue with him is he would be a pure rental.

Karlsson is even more of an enigma offensively His speed & 200 foot game are always on display, but the scoring touch & confidence he had early in his Vegas run seems to have abandoned him. That 43 goal season was obviously an outlier, but he has the skills to flirt with 30 every year, but barely breaks 20. However, I think him paired with Panarin would really reignite his point production, plus he's so responsible defensively, that hopefully it would rub off on his linemates. The other benefit of a potential trade for Karlsson means Strome doesn't get extended here.

8 shots on goal so far in the FLA-CBJ game and 3 goals have been scored. We could see a rematch on the 1996 Stanley Cup Finals if Florida and Colorado both make it that far. Imagine Joe Thornton finally winning the Cup as a fourth liner.

EDIT: 4-1 Florida now. Lundell has 3 points and it's only the first period.

Lundell now 4 assists that's more assists for him in one game than...nevermind

Interesting how many are already making the Cats the powerhouse of the east. Can't wait until the playoffs. In a 7 game series when Bob has to outduel Vasy. In a 7 games give me Vasy. Knight may become an important part of the playoffs again for the Panthers.

well, if we didn't win those two lotto picks, we'd all be griping about how we ruined Lundell & Zegras instead.

Kakko, Laf, Zegras would all look fantastic on the Panthers, they play with speed move the puck don't stop skating and they SUPPORT each other.

Laine is coming back to life as well, he has really worked on his 200-foot game.

For ppl saying we could have had Lindell, something called Mason Marchment 6 points , Sam Reinhardt has 4 and is over a PPG… the Cats are a freaking machine and score at will. Everyone on that team is setting a career high
