He just knows where the chin music is. Never lose a fight knowing where to land a punch.

Nicky use to do this. Not the jump but would throw to the jaw from the outside. Grab, stabilize, wrestle, throw is not necessary if you can throw a quick, straight punch and connect.

Honestly it’s a loveless relationship at this point. He tried to break up but it didn’t work. He’ll just coast and wait it out til his SO says “ f*** you! I’m done.” It’s crazy how I similar it is.

who wants a 22 year old like this? He’s not a 28-32 year old All-Star with a significant resume. How does a coach save face if a 22 year old pulls this and forces a trade?

Looks like he wants to stay healthy for Panarin.
I'm pretty sure it's been said he wants to play for the Habs.

At this point I wouldn't want to give up what it would likely take to get him.

I'd do deangelo and a 2nd or something...but not much more.

It's probably not enough.

He seems entitled. Not only is he asking for a trade which I kind of get, he's picking one team to get traded to? Unless he has an NTC that's not how this works.

of course that's how it works lol

pro athletes can fight for as much leverage as they want, they're not "entitled" for wanting some modicum of control in a business that will chew them up and spit them out as fast as possible.

DeAngelo is a terrible target for Columbus. they already have Werenski and Jones for the PP.

But its so telegraphed and the recipient is looking somewhere else

Well obviously it wasn't THAT telegraphed. Easy to say that watching on a slow mo video. Look at it in real time, his hand speed is really impressive.

That and throwing a superman punch on skates is something that most guys don't see ever. The element of surprise is a thing.

They are garbage. They are gonna need Pettersson and Hughes to be super elite players. and even then they still suck.
They let go a terrific starting goalie and good dman to division rivals lol

Yeah, their off-season was a gigantic mess. Specially the Calgary signings ... Benning I guess.

Anyone else get a kick out of the Devils having two goalies named Blackwood and Wedgewood and another skater named Miles Wood?

Getting a kick out of it sounds too positive. I rejoice in the certainty that it makes the Debbies sound like hicks. No offense to hicks.

Why has every team besides us played like 5 games already

lol, I'm looking at Dallas ... like how tf will they end up playing all the games.

I don't have a problem with players using their power to go where they want. I do have a problem with players dogging it like pld has.

I feel like not having total control over the city you play in is one of the job hazards that comes with a job that pays you up to 8 figures a year. I think theoretically that's part of the compensation. If you are part of a company with a team based in NYC, but they move your team to Boston you might have to move to Boston or leave the job behind. I never understand why so many people make this into a huge deal like athletes are being abused. If I'm an executive at a Fortune 500 company and am making a few million there are also some unpleasant aspects of the job I have to put up with to make that amount of money. Let's save the woe is the employee for people working minimum wage jobs.

PLD is going to force their hand if he keeps playing like that. He's basically tanking his trade value by the day at this point. CBJ should act quickly before it gets even worse, I'm sure that is terrible for the locker room.

Thats the difference, RFA-age players do not have that option. They cannot, even when not under a contract, seek employment with another team. Its "work for this team, or leave the industry"

And its not a parallel to say the player works for the Company (NHL) and works in an office location (Team city). Neither the players, nor the fans, consider a player as an employee of the league; they are an employee of the team. A bunch of teams all agreeing not to hire employees 'because they belong to team X', is a form of collusion, as far as i am concerned.

You can leave your Fortune 500 company, and get a job in a different Fortune 500 company.

This feels like when the contract was signed, PLD was told he'd be traded fast and it'd be easier if he was under contract and didn't miss camp/games and quickly so that he wouldn't turn into a media circus and made into a entitled pariah whose reputation is tarnished for the rest of the career. Then the reports that Jarmo was getting good offers but wasn't budging so PLD just says f*** it, you didn't hold up on our understanding that you'd trade me quickly with the best of the good offers you got so now I'm going to make this way harder than it has to be. In for a tablespoon, in for a cup.

In practice yes, but if you're a regular person and you leave your job it could take months if not over a year to find another job and that's from your fancy 70k a year job.

Look, part of the job description is you may be moved to another city. So what? You get compensated for it better than 99.9% of the people in the world. Having that be the line is random. You also put your health on the line. You also have to travel nonstop for 9 months a year. If I'm a banker or a lawyer I shouldn't complain about sometimes working 100 hour weeks. If I'm a management consultant, I shouldn't complain about weekly travel. That's in the job description. All 3 jobs are well compensated to boot. I can see if you're making minimum wage and are doing backbreaking labor complaining about that. But these athletes are VERY well compensated and they know what they're getting into.

PLD's last shift tonight:

It's interesting, from my POV as a former player, the initial reaction is maybe not that its a very big deal, at the same time, there is certainly a point as to where Swedish 3rd tier hockey in late 90's early 00's differ a lot from the NHL to say the least. Up until the very last play I am still inclined to say that I could excuse it, I mean, the game is so much about positioning for a center. We all see in NY from time to time what happens when none of the forwards stay in position. But that last play is of course definitely an indication of a low battle level, even if the play probably was "lost" before a higher compete level would have shown.

Overall, I am more "concerned" about the Ryan Johansen factor. I.e. not that he won't be a valuable player. Not that he would bust. Not that he would be a slacker. But that you basically get what you think that you are getting -- but ultimately when everything is on the line "that" isn't the difference maker in today's game. That we will end up the type of speed and intensity that guys like Aho, Marchand, Barzal, Point and co brings, instead of the OK top 2 line play and size someone like PLD brings. It is a version of exactly how I feel about Eichel, but with Eichel you get much less intensity but much more top end skill. But still not that intensity and -- tempo -- of guys like Aho, Marchand, Barzal, Point and co. JMHO. I definitely respect any opinion that holds PLD and Eichel higher, but this is just my evaluation of it. And all this of course taking into full account the very steep price you would have to pay to get them and what you have to pay them in salary against the Cap.
