Every time I see your username I think you’re a Flyers fan lol

Oh because like Roo as in Giroux? Haha I never even thought of that. One of my many outside of hockey interests.

It's from the Streets of Rage Sega Genesis series if you're not familiar (and everyone here for that matter) with it.

Roo was a character in the third game a boxing kangaroo that if you beat up his handler a clown named Bruce you can add him to your group and play as him.

I always found it hilarious in this run down city in the war against drugs and gangs that these ex-cops are fighting here's a boxing kangaroo beating up organized crime and cyborgs.

They released Streets of Rage 4 earlier this year and in my group texts it was always "Yo where's Roo at? He back?" They sort of brought him back but he's a bartender now :)

And here I thought it was from Winnie The Pooh. Oh bother!

Even interviewing Chiarelli for a GM position is embarrassing to that franchise.

As much as I love a good train wreck, it would be disgusting to see him get another managerial job in the league. Why not give Jay Feaster or Cliff Fletcher a call while they're at it?

Chiarelli will keep getting chances in this league because he has a cup on his resume, and his pedigree and connections get him interviews.

For as far as hockey's come, it's still very much a good ol' boys club. That's not changing anytime soon.

I feel like the disaster he left in Edmonton would give everyone that sour taste Neil Smith left in everyone's mouth.

Sam and Joe will have the national radio call of the ECF for Westwood One. This might be the first time since their days together at FOX (1999) that they will have done a game that didn't include the Rangers.

It took me forever to realize you changed from White Plains Batman. I liked that name a lot better

There's more to the Neil Smith story than anyone freely admits. Honestly, the way he's been treated by the league is very...interesting.
Neil Smith is the polar opposite of Chiarelli. Chiarelli has a tight relationship with the league office and they keep pumping him to teams whenever there is an opening. Smith, not so much on either count.

Cliff actually lives in Arizona. I think he is still doing a little scouting for the Leafs. I haven’t seen him for a couple of years but he used to sit right near me at Coyote games. He’s a cranky old guy but he did tip me off on the Wolski-Rozsival trade a few years ago.

He almost became Rangers GM at some point if I remember correctly. Like after Smith's second year there was a regime change in MSG (is that when Gutkowski came in or Jaffe?) and they were very close to booting Smith after the 1991 easy exit to Washington.

The 1990-91 Rangers were very close to winning the division but Richter had a groin injury which meant Beezer had to play like 15 straight games and at that point in his career he was very hot and cold and when he went cold for all you younger guys, it's a lot like Hellebuyck on Winnipeg or 2019-20 Holtby when they go cold. Not good.

Also Kissio had a Charlie Horse injury that made him ineffective the last quarter of the season, and Neilson wanted to get tougher so Smith traded Kevin Miller and Dennis Vial to Detroit for Joey Kocur and the immortal Per Djoos.

It backfired because Kocur was a pure 4th liner with little to no offense and Miller was a lot like a Jesper Fast ideally a 4th liner on a deep squad but you can plug him anywhere with injuries.

So the Rangers became a 1 line team which was no problem for guys like Langway/Iafrate/Johannsen from shutting them down.
