Rangers get in then? They are currently 16th in the league

That would be really fun. Of course no one would ever fully credit the 'Cup winner just like lockout seasons, and at this point I've pretty much given up hope of seeing hockey again until pre-season.

lol, playoffs

Earth to Igor - I think we’re trying prevent a world wide health epidemic. Colleges have canceled semesters, Grade schools are likely done, Restaurants, pubs and companies are keeping people at home while the market is absolutely crashing, plus, plus, plus . . .

Considering the battle to prevent a health epidemic, besides us few hockey fans, I thinking it’s not on too many people’s radar for 25 misc players to raise a trophy over their heads.

Does that mean that only 7 teams qualify for the lottery?
I guess this depends on how everything is structured. Do they do a best of 3 round with the 17-24 teams? Teams that might have been in the lottery running anyways? Albeit at lower % odds, to a degree. Eliminated teams get reseeded based on the points they had prior to the suspension of the season.

It would just hurt a team such as like MTL or CHI should they win a round and then lose in the 1-16 best of 7 games round because they werent really good enough anyway. Just got hot for the best of 3 and screwed their draft odds.

Very interesting dilemma.

But again Rangers are the 16th ranked team points wise in the league. If anything they are deserving of being there.

Also this type of decision could impact changes to the playoff format moving forward. There has been the talk of going back to the 1-8 format for each conference.

To be fair these are sports journalists who are still going to talk about sports. Its no different than NFL journalists continuing to cover NFL teams and free agency tomorrow. There will be life again after this disease is conquered. Igor is clearly getting info from someone who has connections to the NHL. And it is not surprising the NHL, which is a business, is still putting together contingency plans should there be a change / progress with this COVID-19 Disease.

I’d also argue the discussion of sports is a good escape from the harsh realities we are all learning to deal with.

But sure criticize the hell out of this guy...

lol, it’s completely different. NFL journalists (or whatever these fellas are) will have actual news to report. NFL free agency WILL begin shortly.

Im sorry but how is this different? If Igor, who is a credible reporter, is getting legitimate info that this is a very possible outcome should play resume at a reasonable time, how is this different? Hockey reporter should just keep this to himself?

Yeah, you can reach all you want here but your take was a bad one. No big deal, it happens.

apparently you don’t follow the NFL as free agency is happening while the rest of the sports world is on halt. Journalists will be reporting on actual news. Reach all YOU want, the season is over despite this delusion an Igor tweeted.

I am not reaching at all pal. This is what is being tweeted by a credible hockey reporter about a possible outcome for the NHL. And here you are chastising him for even reporting it.

Then you should read the general board where someone's excited about faster tests because maybe they can play hockey and basketball.

If there is any type of expanded playoffs, the lottery seeding will be a big part of the accompanying conversation. A lot of deals were made based on the 16 team playoff.

How do you know this? You don't know shit just like the rest of us so stop pretending like you do. They are going to do everything they can to save the season and stop the bleeding from the loss of revenue right now. Nobody knows how this is going to play out at the moment.

Among the issues with all this would be travel. It's private jets everywhere. It's accommodations and food. It's all the screening that goes with it. It's things like hotels and airports not completely shutting down as the process is playing out and if things get a lot worse that's more likely. If a player gets sick....if it spreads through a team......what happens?

Considering the virus is most likely to spread while it is cold and our beloved sport is being held in huge freezer's all time.

The combination sucks ...

Just going through the standings as I read about playoff proposals. Wanted to see how teams played vs divisions. And oh goddamn look at Detroit and the Metro!

24 team playin could be interesting
I'd have
(1)Bottom 7 teams season over

(2) the 6 potential WCs seeded by point% within conference, then (2a) play best 2 of 3.
(2b) To eliminate 1 winner, 3 winners play double round robin (each gets home game and road game)

While those 6/7 games for each WC team occur ,
To get back in game shape,
(3)the 6 Bye teams play 4 games, in Conference, which would-contribute to playoff seeding
1st place teams host each 2d place team, visit each 3rd place team
2d place teams hosts 3d place teams

The go into standard 4 round tournament, perhaps 1st round 2 of 3

I believe that would have East early matchups as Canes-Habs, Isles-Panthers, NyR- CBJ
(Isles have better pts/g than CBJ)
