At the very least the NHL has to shut down any attendance. It's not worth anyone dying over and if something like this helps to slow down the spread of this illness/disease it needs to be done.

An idea--I don't know if it's workable and if players start getting the virus it's really not---but the NHL could empty arenas and televise and meanwhile revamp the schedule down from 82 to 75 games (we're almost there right now) and go ahead with best of 3 game playoff series instead of 7 and have season and playoffs over and done with in 5 or 6 weeks. All that said just the traveling around might make it too risky.

It sucks but it is what it is. Next season might be more of the same.

If things get postponed/cancelled .....I have a feeling we will eventually see a playoff for the Cup that has EVERY club involved . We will see playoffs that are best of 3 in the early rounds for the non playoff clubs with the winners moving on to play another . It can still all finish in early June and revenue would likely be even higher for the league because of the elimination series . This also gives some clubs a chance to recoup some loss revenue. It likely would also provide for some upsets along the way ....could get very interesting for sure depending how it all gets set up by the league .

they aren't going to cancel the regular season and then add more games to some ridiculous playoff format. it would be easier to just play the regular season games to finish the season and push back the playoffs.

I think the most likely result is 20-24 teams in the playoffs with best of three play in round and shortened first/second rounds

how is that most likely? a drastic change like that can't be the most likely scenario.

This would be the most reasonable.

It would be utter bullshit if they start selecting a standard such as Point % to determine the 8 teams from each conference. Ending the seasons for the teams that have been battling for a spot. It would be especially bullshit for the Western Conference which as so many teams in the hunt for not just the WC but the 3rd spot in the division.

They should be going by Team Wins or Regulation wins if anything. Rewarding teams for the loser point in 3-on-3 & Shootout is absolutely absurd.

I don't think play is going to be suspended long enough for expanded playoffs to become an option. They'll force in a bunch of games in a short period of time if need be.

The buyout thing makes sense if revenue takes a massive hit even after things get rolling again. Assuming its just 1 buyout, It would be nice to have Shattenkirk's money off the books for next summer.

I don't know, right now I think if you were going to put money on it, its more likely that the season is cancelled and they don't play at all then being back in a short period of time...hope i'm wrong but it doesn't feel that way.
