Oh hey, this conversation again? I thought we were done with it when Kayes signed in August, 7 MONTHS AGO. Hey can we talk about Pirri some more too?

Anyway, I'm really pulling for Ovechkin to win the triple crown. Seeing Tavares get the Ross and Hart would be awesome though. Isles fans have been waiting a long time for him to get some hardware.

Really sucks that Kane won't get it this year :(

What does any of this have to do with Stalberg?

And yea, the lack of Blackhawk hockey the past two weeks has left some of us a little stir crazy.

Tbh I don't miss frolik that much relative to how much I miss other ex-Hawks. What he gave us on the PK was largely replaced by Smith.

Told there's been some real headway in talks between Johnny Boychuck's camp and the Islanders on an extension... Not done, but getting there

Boychuk signs for 6Mx 7 years. Puts Seabrook at about 7M x 7 years after next year. Good news, IMO.

How would Frolik help this teams scoring woes? Sure, he is scoring now, but he did **** all scoring wise when he was here.

Surely if given the same chances Versteeg got Frolik would have been effective scorer

Also look at it like this. If Hawks pass on giving Bickell his horrid deal that means Frolik and Hayes probably are both Hawks right now

With Frolik the Hawks don't need to trade for Versteeg and without Bickell it is likely Hayes would have been in lineup to fill his role

So wow when you look at it Stan really screwed up

The better option to keep Frolik would have been to not resign Handzus (1M) and Roszival (2.2M), let alone Khabibulin (2M). More than enough money with those salaries off the books to keep both Frolik and Versteeg if they still wanted him.

Even if Bickell is still on the roster, you could keep a spot open for Hayes by not signing Carcillo (who is useless).

Hayes wasn't going to play in Chicago, regardless of a spot being available. He made that clear. He wanted no part of this organization.

Frolik got chances in the top 6, and still didn't produce. He was a vastly overpaid 4th liner on this team, and I am happy they got what they did for him.

Versteeg is a much better offensive player, and fits much better into the top 6 than Frolik ever would have.

And Jimmy Hayes had no future here, and would have probably been traded regardless if Bickell was around or not. Which means the other Hayes probably would have still signed elsewhere.

But let's throw a bunch of hypotheticals into this and act like it would have went exactly like you portrayed.

This. He was given plenty of chances. Wasn't he our "2C" for a stretch too?

If Seabrook wants 7 million or more, he's as good as gone.

His play hasn't warranted that kind of money/cap hit since 2012.

He's not even the 2nd best defender on this team any more.

If he takes something slightly less, like 6.5 even, then maybe the Hawks move pieces around to make it work.

We can't afford to pay Seabrook 7 mil. Salary cap increases have already been gobbled.

Not true. This is season after next. We will be cap compliant with Seabrook next year. It will be Seabrook, Versteeg and Shaw up for new contracts otherwise we're cool. You pick Seabs, give him 7 + minor raises for the Rockford guys coming off their ELC and it's easily done.

Versteeg is a better scoring option than Frolik while Frolik is the better third line player.

There would've been room for both if you don't extend Bickell.

Hindsight being 20/20. Doubt many here wanted those things two summers back.

Boychuk deal is beyond absurd unless he continues to produce like this year. Remember he's previous career high is 23pt. His even-strength numbers aren't that great and it's not like he's been playing shutdown minutes for the Isles. Terrible deal IMO.

We're lucky if we can get Seabrook at 7m. At this rate, he might be gettin 8M per in the open market in 2016.
