I know he's not on Gretzky/Mario levels but #88 will always be Lindros to me. Just weird to see someone else wear it IMO.
Nylander wore it growing up and pre-NHL days. Lindros wore it for the Leafs for less than half a season.

The uproar about it is the highest level of stupidity.

Yeah, it was weird for me when people starting wearing it as well. 17 players have worn it since Lindros retired though (11 players wore it last season). The selective outrage for Nylander was weird.

It's still not as ridiculous as the outrage over Ho-Sang wearing no 66 for the Islanders

I didnt even know there was outrage over Nylander switching, I just saw a headline about him switching to 88 on tsn. I was just commenting how certain numbers in my mind will always be associated with certain players but I obviously have a Rangers/eastern conference/started watching in the 90s bias which is why I associate 88 with Lindros first and not Kane. Nylander can wear whatever he wants I'm sure it will get a ton of coverage from Toronto media no matter what he picks. Looking forward to the article on how Nylanders switch affects the Marner negotiations.

88 is synonymous with David Pastrnak

I honestly don't understand why some fans think 88 should be exclusive to Lindros anyway

Indian cricket fans.
They are awful. I used to visit my grandparents and I guess the world cup or something used to be on at the time... Even watching it on TV they were insane... I didn't get it . How did people change so redically watching a sport.

I guess I'm just not wired that way. I tend to watch sports the same way as I am in general life...with calm reflection.

Oddly enough I probably got more pumped and happy when we won the draft lottery than when we made to scf.

Try making a joke about Sachin Tendulkar. Bad move. They wanted to bash me.
