Florida isn't the greatest trade partner for Kreider because they still have a few RFAs to sign and their cap is almost maxed out. Plus I can't see that team giving up a first unless it's lottery protected. To make it work Rangers probably have to retain a little and take back someone like a Colton Sceviour. They're a lot like the Rangers current construction: on paper they're "better" but let's see how they do on ice. They've been a hipster analytics team for the last five seasons.
Colorado is much better trade partner but again, they'll probably have about $3 million to work and they have a roster full of forwards. Jost is an option. He reminds me so much of Roslovic on Winnipeg: first rounders who haven't put it all together yet. Rangers need to take back another player to make it work cap wise for both teams. I suggested Colin Wilson but apparently the Avs value him as a depth piece and he just resigned. The only other roster option I could think of is Matt Nieto who I think would be great for the bottom six. Him and Quinn actually missed each other at BU by a few years. It all comes down to Sakic though. Is he even interested? Jost will get dealt eventually because the Avs essentially have opened their window unless they have a year like the 92-93 Rangers.
My guess is Sakic is aware of the Rangers cap situation and let's say a Jost and Nieto for Kreider is probably the "best" offer on the table if even that much. Kaut+1st is an ok package, but it actually hurts Colorado cap and roster wise.
