And he'll get those sheltered minutes. They also have the fire power that can take advantage of the shots he generates. I forget which advanced stats chart I was reading but Shatty and Trouba ranked fairly high on the useless shots list - lots of SOG with a bad point conversion ratio.

good for him

is that roster strong enough to support his poor play ? seems like a good value deal

if hes healthy and gets PP1 time, hell earn that contract.

if he plays like he did last year, hell be a boat anchor for them esp. 5v5

Shattenkirk for 1 year at 1.75M is exceptional value. Next year a number of teams (not the Rangers - like at all - Go ARTEMI!) will be scooping up similar deals.

I saw those stats mentioned in an article on tsn.ca by Travis Yost about how some NHL D shoot too much.

I don't get why he's pissed, he got paid to be a top player on the team which he wasn't, wether it was injuries, age or just a bad fit he didn't do what the Rangers brought him in to do so they let him go, which I feel is a pretty normal thing for any work place to do if you underperform, specially if you have limited space

From the mid 1950’s till the early 1960’s the Sporting Media jokingly called the Kansas City Athletics the New York Yankee’s farm team.
Well, I believe we have earned that title in regards to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Was hoping to find audio instead of reading how Mohr spun it. But if he is pissed thats cool, but I hope somewhere in there he thanked the Rangers organization.

Does anyone know how the paychecks break down for players who are bought out? Does Shattenkirk get a lump sum of 13.3M, does he get paid the same way as he would had if he had not been bought out? Or does the pay table change and reflect the cap impact and he is paid over 4 years as opposed to 2?

I could see a player getting pissed if his paycheck changes drastically and it alters his lifestyle, not to mention he is uprooted, etc. That could suck.

Either way though - he will get his money AND an additional tax free 1.75M that he would NOT HAVE HAD had he not been bought out. So when its all said and done - and - if he does have a bounce back year and is signed as a UFA again, he could potentially see another 2-4M in the first year of that contract that he would not have received in year 4 with the Rangers. So he could make an additional 4-6M more in his career which isnt ALL THAT BAD.

maybe that's where i read it? shooting a lot isn't a problem. The article made a point of shooting a lot and not getting a proportionally balanced result as an issue.

Some great replies in here to Shatty's understandable anger. Are people generally satisfied with being fired?

And don't give me that BS about 'he makes a lot of money' blah blah. These guys are competative as hell. There is more to life than money. He has every right to be pissed and if I was him I also would be.

Hasn't it been posted already yesterday? Shat is pissed at himself, the way competitive athletes are. He doesn't blame the Rangers organization. Many posters cleared that up yesterday.

He should be mad at himself. We gave him every opportunity to step up and play good hockey and stay physically fit.

He didn't do any of that.

The way I read it he's spreading his anger around. He's not happy with the Rangers for sure--he wasn't happy with the new direction they were going in after the letter came out. He signed up to play for a Rangers team that was going to compete for the Stanley Cup not a team that was going to start retooling and rebuilding with youth. He wasn't happy with his own play though either. So......in a way all in all it's kind of a nothing story about things not working out as he planned.

FWIW I'm not concerned at all about him being a Lightning uniform. He is not nearly on a level with either Hedman or McDonagh and he's going to be fighting for ice time on the right side with guys like Sergachev, Cernak and Cal Foote all younger and arguably better players or will be soon. On paper it's a great team and one I would think will challenge for the Stanley Cup this year. We'll see what part he'll play in it but really he would be the 10th-11th-12th best player on it--maybe not even that high.

I'd really love to see how some of you react if you were fired lol

"thanks boss. I know i deserve losing my means of living, I didn't "fit your plans"! sorry man! please accept my apology and yell at me so I learn my lesson!"

The reaction and decision should really depend on facts only.

If you did your job and got fired, you can rightfully so be pissed at the company.

If you didn't do your job, got fired and see your own mistakes, then you can only be mad at yourself. ( I think this is Shat)

If you didn't do your job, got fired, but don't see your own mistake, then you're a :eek::eek::eek:.

yeah well the "facts" were that Shatt was by far the best of the three tumors on defense with the most to offer and most bounce-back potential and he was the one who got bought out over two players that simply don't belong in the NHL and will likely not have any value for the rest of their NYR tenure so

Okay, and I'm sure if just buying out Smith would've solved the Rangers' cap problems, he would've been the choice over Shattenkirk. Unfortunately, it would not have. So, what second move are you making to achieve compliance? (Bearing in mind that it's been reported there were no takers for Namestnikov or any of the other non-core players.)

As for Staal, it's been discussed ad infinitum, but clearly management sees some value in him that extends beyond his stats (advanced or otherwise).

Really? Shattenkirk has over $38 million in career earnings by 30 years of age. That I would think would put him in the very top percentile of wage earners in the country. I'd look at his buyout as one hell of a golden parachute. A lot of people when they do lose their jobs are truly f***ed over and more often than not get $0 from their former employers and less than adequate help from local, state and federal entities.

So maybe the Rangers should have put off their retool until after Shattenkirk's contract was done? The Rangers changed direction--Kevin kind of says he wasn't that jazzed about it so what's he got to be unhappy about now?--he's got a new job that pays pretty well on a for real contender and he's got free money coming from the Rangers for the next 4 years. And what's this nonsense about someone yelling at him? Who?--a few posters here? You think he's so thin skinned that he'd care about that?

I'm not talking about my persepctive, I'm talking about why if I was Shatt I'd definitely not feel good about the decision they made.

The NHL and NHLPA have the option to opt out of the CBA. September 1 for the NHL. The NHL is not expected to opt out of the CBA. The NHLPA has a September 15 opt out. The NHLPA is not expected to opt out of the CBA. If either sides opts out, the current CBA expires on September 15, 2020. Both sides have been trying to negotiate an extension to the CBA which expires September 15, 2022. Something to watch in the next three plus weeks. They are trying to have a new CBA in place before September

professional athletes can lose all their money much faster than an average person and have much shorter career windows. the jack johnson story should be a screeching reminder. he might be in the top earners but he is signficantly less protected than those that he's in company with and from a young age has had to surround himself with the right people to make sure he can sustain himself for the rest of his career.

man you took this quote way too literally.

it's a critique of how harsh we're critiquing someone for............admitting they had a bad season and saying they f***ed up. some posters would love nothing more than for him to say "i'm an abject disappointment and deserve nothing but the worst. I f***ing suck".
