Potvin's last season was in 1988. So you'd have to be around 40 to have any memory of him playing. And that's being generous, considering you'd have been 10 at the time.

Moreover, it has little to do with age. MSG has become a place filled with tourists and business people who know little about hockey. I had season tickets for 10 years and watched the garden go from a pre-renovation place filled largely with 'real' fans, to a place where it was hard to get a real chant going during the first stanley cup final game in 20 years.

MSG has prioritized rich business people over real fans. It is what it is.

And I'm sorry, but comparing Denis Potvin to The Beatles is just......bad.

You got perspectives of few of us that understand and accept where Potvin Sucks and Dancing Larry come from. Possibly you will get there too in a few more years.

Fans obviously don't give a shit but what' ironic about the whole "Potvin Sucks" chant is that Ulfie Nilsson himself to this day and most Ranger players at the time didn't think than and now that Potvin did anything dirty.

Just typical bad Ranger luck and typical bad Garden ice and most of us fans at time feel it likely cost us a Cup that year as Nilsson was incredible that first year as a Ranger coming over from the WHA and was never truly the same player when he came back.

Clarification on something earlier about the Devils and not allowing high numbers: That wasn't a Devils cultural thing, that was a Lou Lamiriello thing which he still does with the Islanders. Lou is shall we say, a little uptight. He's the kind of guy to tuck his shirt in and wear slacks up to his pecs with knee high dress socks and loafers in 90 degree weather on his day off. He's pretty much the antithesis of my code lol.

The Potvin sucks thing is dumb. It's like a WWE with people chanting You Suck at Kurt Angle. Same deal. The Islanders fans sing nursery rhymes though so they aren't so innocent themselves.

Do over your math. I said I was 61. I was born in September 1957. Fact is I have an idea one of the things my mom and dad were up to on Christmas day in 1956. So I got to see plenty of Denis Potvin.

MSG is celebrity happy and kowtows to corporations--that's really not news. The Potvin sucks people--some of them anyway are long time Rangers fans so I'm not sure what they have to do with the celebrities and corporations. I don't live in New York either---I'm about 5 hours away--I was in the Coast Guard on Governor's Island for 3 years in the 80's if that counts for anything but really I don't get to see the Rangers at MSG very often but when I do I really look forward to it. Still I've been following the Rangers for quite a while--this year will be my 48th season. I'm sure I will follow them until I did and if something were to happen to them I would not follow another team.....I would give it all up.

By the way I think there should be limits on personal wealth. There's no good reason for anyone to be a billionaire.

It’s definitely not like Kurt angle. First they chant it at angle so they know who he is and second it’s done as show of love

Kessel to Phx for Galchenyuk....more pieces involved..still coming in.

edit:

Galchenyuk and Pierre-Olivier Joseph for Kessel and a 4th. Wow...great deal for PHX. Can't believe that's all it took for a 90 point star player. Pierre-Olivier Joseph is a mystery if he will make the NHL and Galchenyuk could easily walk to UFA after a big year with Crosby/Malkin and command 7+ million for 7 years.

Kessel away from Crosby/Malkin/Letang is not a 90 pts star

He will be back to the inconsistent guy he was in Toronto only at 32 yrs old the likelihood is more that he will be closer to the guy that was a brutal disappointment to the occasionally good Kessel we saw in Toronto

Before these past two seasons playing with Crosby/Malkin/Letang in Pens up tempto offense he only had 3 years of 70 or more pts in his career

He will be back to 50-69 pts Kessel IMO

That's selling him a little short. Assuming good health and no massive decline, Kessel is a lock for 60+ points with or without the Pittsburgh core. This is a guy who averaged 72 points per 82 games during his time in Toronto.

You think of a nickname, I will find a costume

name and costume found...Captain Austria!!

You think Derek the Dancing Man Stepan isn't gonna boost him up to a 100 point season? ;) Wonder if they will play Keller of LW or if Kessel will switch over. Of if Keller goes back to his original position at center. Someone has to switch around. Arizona has some good pieces but it means nothing if their young kids don't take it to the next level next season. That and Carl Soderberg.

Kessel’s best production in Pittsburgh was playing with Hagelin and Bonino. The “he won’t produce away from Crosby/Malkin/Letang” comments are laughable. His center in Toronto was Tyler Bozak.

Phil needs the puck. So do Crosby and Malkin. He was never really a fit with them.

He wanted to go to Arizona and play under Rick Tocchet. He’ll be motivated and I wouldn’t bet against him having a 40/40 season.

Maple leafs are gonna be taking a step back this year...they lost marleau and Gardiner ..are about to pay marner a fortune to lock him up and their prospects aren't exactly amazing.

A mediocre defense is probably going to be truly awful next year.

I wonder if they are going to get leap frogged by Florida if they can add panarin and bobrovsky.

If you think about it, Florida has nearly the star power that the leafs do as well...they just got awful goaltending all year long.

Arizona is putting together an odd collection of players. Kessel is a quality add. Soderberg not so much. I get the sense there are more moves coming.

Remember, they were shopping Stepan a while ago.

This is part of why I'm not into the idea of signing Panarin. The star forwards on ELCs are great value and all, but you're kinda of forcing your team to take a step or two or however many back when they end up needing to get paid by trading pieces off your roster (worst case adding to those pieces just to get someone to take them) to make room for them

The Leafs are going to have to move someone significant without taking salary back. I know Zaitsev is on the block but his $4.5 mil salary going away would only give them $10 mil to work with and that might not be enough to get Marner to sign. Kadri's on the block too--that would make things work but that's even more depth gone.

If the Panthers sign both Bobrowsky and Panarin they're going to have some issues too. Currently they have 8 forwards, 5 defensemen and James Reimer in goal signed. They will try to dump Reimer's $3.4 mil but that cap hit will be about what they have to work with to fill out their roster. Anyway Reimer sucks and to move him I think they're going to have to move a very good young prospect or at the least a 2nd rd. pick. Getting Bobrowsky and Panarin I wouldn't be surprised if they also try moving Hoffman to get a bit more cap space to work with.
