3 things that I can do without:

- Potvin sucks
- Dancing Larry
- Washed up celebrities showing up on the Jumbotron

Add in reality stars to the washed-up celebrities and I completely agree.

I still don't get the thing with Dancin' Larry. Guy is awful and for an organization that prides itself on being one of the classiest organizations in the league, he dents that image from my perspective.

Like 1% of the people taking part in the Potvin Chants these days actually know who he is.

MSG is not loaded to gills with just 25 year olds and under. There are old duffers here and there who were much younger back around 1980 when the assault on Nilsson happened. No doubt there is a bunch taking part who have no clue who Potvin is--but hey!--different strokes for different folks--most of the same weren't around for Sly and the Family Stone or even the Beatles--that doesn't mean they can't like the music--and by the way I'm not really a fan of the Beatles either but if that's who someone likes and they're not really harming anyone I tend to leave them alone. Kind of my personal version of what anarchy could or should be. People doing what they want to do as long as they're not harming others.

Potvin's last season was in 1988. So you'd have to be around 40 to have any memory of him playing. And that's being generous, considering you'd have been 10 at the time.

Moreover, it has little to do with age. MSG has become a place filled with tourists and business people who know little about hockey. I had season tickets for 10 years and watched the garden go from a pre-renovation place filled largely with 'real' fans, to a place where it was hard to get a real chant going during the first stanley cup final game in 20 years.

MSG has prioritized rich business people over real fans. It is what it is.

And I'm sorry, but comparing Denis Potvin to The Beatles is just......bad.

The Potvin sucks will never go away. It’s a tradition. Dancing Larry(that’s the good nickname, the people upstairs have a far more derogative nickname for him) is a jinx, I believe it’s been factually proven that the other team scores after he does his best seizure impersonation. And I agree with you about the no name celebrities from no name tv shows, literally no one cares.

Actually I'm 61--I started following the Rangers in 1971-72. That gives me some insight into both Denis Potvin the player and also the phenomena known as the Beatles. I have remembraces of my deceased sister for instance coming out of a five and dime with a 5 card pack of Topps Beatles cards including a stick of gum that would have cost 5 cents back then.....but they're only memories....I don't have the proof because those cards have disappeared and I'm pretty certain she chewed the gum up right away.....so you'll have to take my word for it....or not. That's up to you.

I'd really not get into critiques of people I don't know though---whether they have different sexual persuasions, or are 'illegally' crossing borders (whatever illegally means I don't attach a moral to crossing a border), believe in this, that or the other. If they're doing no harm I tend to refrain from showing disapproval of the thing they are doing. Chanting 'Potvin sucks' falls into the realm of relatively benign behavior---at least done at MSG--there's very little likelihood it's going to create a commotion. In the Barclay Center it might though so best not to take it on the road.

the cutoff is alot older than 25...nilsson hit was 40 years ago...people under 50 might be aware of the story of what happened, but I doubt anyone under 50 actually remembers it

The time when it was about how the fans felt about Potvin and Nilsson is long gone, these days it’s more a part of MSG history and experience, really no different from the LETS GO, RANGERS chant or Dancing Larry. I get nostalgic thinking I first experienced these things more than a quarter of a century ago and still do these days.
