That's what happens with a good coaching staff.. we could've went far with the right 1.
As I stated about 20 minutes ago, I'm firmly in the camp that the roster construction was the main culprit. Gallant isn't without fault, but our total lack of speed or any significant grit was going to get exposed at some point.

Schmid was moving like shit in the 1st round too. Watching him push from side to side in the crease against the Rangers was damn embarrassing. He was lucky the Rangers either shot it into his chest or directly into his glove.

Anyone who thought he was some elite goalie who came out of nowhere is seeing the truth now; he is an AHL level goalie. f***in Rangers blew a glorious opportunity to make a run this season with the roster they had. Looks like Carolina and Florida are gonna battle for a chance to win the Cup. Still can’t believe the Rangers didn’t show up for Game 7 against these frauds.

But you still need to instill some kind of system, discipline.

If Panarin did half the shit on the Canes, you think RBA would let that fly? Hell, he'd be chipping in defensively.

They are missing players but they still function like a well-oiled machine.

Get us a new coach. Come December/January, get rid of the kumquats that were our jerseys!

That can be mitigated. As long as they fix their neutral zone play, with a few smart adds and different roles it would change the complexion of the team.

The wild card is Panarin. It’s hard to deny that his passive play has infected the rest of the team. Idk what Drury does but between him, Panarin & Gallant it’s an important time for the franchise.

Royal road is over. The secret is the 2 foot black line along the wall

we suck.

Shot the puck right at him.
Even as fans we see what Gallant did not see. After games Gallant would say “their goalie played really well” when the truth was that the Rangers didn’t test this schmuck. He made no memorable saves at all; in Game 6 the Rangers exposed him but then didn’t carry any of it over into Game 7.

Had a feeling the Devils might get knocked around.

Ruff is awful. He's responsible for the Rangers being in that series. He's coaching the team he wants, not the team he has.

But doesn't speed also come from having a structure and a game plan, players knowing what they're supposed to do out there instead of just going out there and hoping for the best? I never played the game but it seems you have to know exactly what roles everyone has. If that makes sense.

That too but then again only a few players are slow footed.
Trouba
Fox
Vesey
Laf
Kakko
Kane
Panarin
Goodrow

That's almost half our skaters. A bigger issue is not only do we skate slow, we PLAY just as slow. The Devils just figured out that if they pressure the D men in our own zone trying to break out & then stack the blue line our entire attack falls apart because we didn't have the ability (speed) to dump & chase or the skaters to make consistent zone entries. A few teams did it to us in the regular season, but the Devils really exploited it.
