Bottom line, they are the exact same GMs following the exact same strategy. One has Toews, Kane, Keith, etc.; the other doesn't. That's the only difference. You can't like the job one has done and crap on the other for doing the same job. Everyone knew the Jets had very little to work with when he got there and it would take a lot of time.

Pirri and Olsen for Versteeg?

Hayes + Olsen for Versteeg + Lefebrve

Other player for player deals from Bowman since start of 2012

1) Brian Connelly to Flames for Brendan Morrison
2) Brandon Segal to Lightning for Matt Fornataro
3) Rob Flick to Bruins for Maxime Suave
4) Kyle Beach to Rangers for Brandon Mashinter
5) Brad Winchestor to Wild for Brian Connelly

Yeah, good correction. I thought I messed up there too.

Based on....what exactly?

Other than extreme negative bias, of course.

Nobody said anything negative about either of them. They both follow a strict draft and develop strategy. It's just ass backwards crazy to see people who laud Bowman for it turn around and condemn Chevy for doing the exact same thing simply because he didn't inherit better players.

Bowman already has an extremely talented and high-priced core in place. In a salary-cap world, the only viable way to maintain success long term with that same core is to draft and develop.
That talented and high-priced core will very soon include two players who Bowman drafted. There will always be fat trimming; it's on Bowman to continue to cycle players through, and Brandon Saad and Teuvo Teravainen were brilliant picks.

Cheveldayoff's Jets just suck.

Apples and oranges.

Bowman doesn't need to chase trades, Chevy does. The Blackhawks are a top-tier championship contender, the Jets are ankle biters.

That's the difference. Plus, looking solely at trading completely ignores other aspects of the game, such as attracting and retaining free agents and developing players/prospects, and I don't think you need to be a hockey wiz to see which franchise has been better in those areas.

Bowman hasn't brought in top tier talent and made franchise direction defining moves... because he shouldn't. This team was largely in place. Bowman hasn't ****ed it up.

Chevy is a GM building around decent pieces and developing entirely from within in the toughest division in hockey with plenty of cap space and movable assets.

You are always harping on Bowman for sitting on his hands. It's one thing to do that when you are one of the premier franchises in the game. It's entirely another to do the same thing when you are an at best bubble team.

Plus, you have to look at it from the perspective of what their teams need. The Jets need a major shakeup, the Hawks need tweaks.
