As if Rick Nash is some kind of poster-child of what a player in decline is.
Players have always declined. Why attach Rick Nash's name to decline as if he was the first player ever to be less productive in the latter half of his career than in the first half?
Stop picking up players in the latter half of their career and expecting first half results.
I think the Rangers do understand this.

I think the Rangers have always known that the latter half is the worst half, but if you have a better idea to sell skyboxes to corporations for business purposes than than names of former glory on the back of the jersey, I'm all ears.

Not to mention the fact that even a good portion of regulars seem ready to bite themselves in the ass once again

What is the kool kat front man of JD & The Straight Shot supposed to do?

Prediction: Over the next 7 years, Jamie Benn will see his offensive numbers hover into the 50s-low 60s, go on to hone his defensive game, and become this decade's Rick Nash.

Needs a visit to personal trainer

Sucks to see the Stars lose but they were always in trouble if it went to game 7. Failing to finish the job at home in game 6 was what cost them the series.

Time to be Mr. Glass-Half-Full:

First off, the Dallas pick drops by "only" 19 spots, not a full round.

Most of us hate Boston. In my opinion, from the Western teams left, St. Louis has the best chance of beating them. Dallas or Colorado definitely wouldn't.

Zucc was easily Dallas's best player in the postseason, I think they'll definitely re-sign him now. If they went another round or two, maybe he'd have gone cold or gotten injured, resulting in them passing on re-signing him. That would've ended up in us getting 28 overall this year, but their 3rd rounder (70s - 80s next year).

And with Dallas's core (Benn, Seguin, Radulov) obviously declining as evidenced by these playoffs, I could see them missing the playoffs next season, like they almost did this year. So the picks we end up getting from them could end up being 47 overall + a lottery pick.

No real way to know how them losing tonight affects us until a year from now.

If it ends up in St. Louis beating Boston in the SCF and Dallas re-signing Zucc & us getting a lottery pick from them next year, then I'm perfectly fine with that.

So glad I chose to not watch that game and only check the score when I got up at 5am this morning.

4 combined shots in the 2nd and 3rd for Dallas? 0 penalties called in 5.5 periods against the Blues? Yea I would've broke everything in my room watching that game.

Poor Zucc.

Would have rather seen the Stars just lose in round 1 than having to sweat that out until a game 7 double OT of the second round. Hockey is cruel.

At least we won the lottery.

I think the Rangers understand that chasing trailing results is a loser's game.

Nash is used in arguments because most poster (especially those who are less educated on the sport) know who he is and how his career transitioned. He is an easy example to point to for those of us against signing or trading for marquee players in their late 20's. I think Nash was a great Ranger. I think that trade was an absolute win. But his career took a marked downturn after he crossed 30.

Easy examples are the best at getting the results you desire. Because when your examples become too complex or excessive, they become more confusing and thus less effective.

Went to bed after the 1st OT. I was like whatever's going to happen is going to happen anyway. Zucc looked good and Bishop was terrific but almost all the other Dallas players sucked big time. From the start of the 2nd period St. Louis took all time and space away from them and wore down Klingberg, Heiskanen and Lundell--all Dallas's puck moving D. The Stars had no answer for a heavy forecheck. The puck went in deep and it stayed there. They basically were beat up and mugged and the policemen (refs) watched and never did a thing to stop it. Benn, Seguin and Radulov looked lost.

It happens in the playoffs--teams stock up on grittier and bigger players. St. Louis proved last night that Dallas couldn't handle that kind of game.

Sucks for us. We drop from a late 1st to a middle-ish 2nd.

Anyone up for a time heist? Gonna go back to the 2007 draft and stop Dallas from drafting Benn.

Dallas didn’t deserve to win, simple as that

Now we wait to see if they re-sign Zucc. I think they have interest, but Zucc wanting to test free agency is the wild card

Fine by me.

I will take 2+20 over 6+20+28 any day

yes, of course! - and we'll take 2+20 instead of something along the lines of 2+28+30 (scenario of Winnipeg going far and Dallas in the conference finals). Packaging 28+30 to move up 8 spots is a home run.

I think we all anticipated Winnipeg going far, that Hayes trade may prove to be brutal for the Jets.

History of 20ov - Brodeur, Brent Burns, Del Zotto, Zajac, Scott Laughton

We can never have nice things! At least Zucc came through again. There has to be no way they don’t re-sign him now.

Zucc is unrestricted. For all intents and purposes he's not their player anymore. Unless and until he signs with them he'll never wear their jersey in an NHL game again. That's the way Dallas doesn't re-sign. On July 1 there will be an auction for his services. He can sign with Dallas now or later after seeing whether someone else will give him a better contract. If he's interested in maxing out on it he'll wait for July 1. Keep in mind that the Stars management and fans have a pretty good idea of what Zucc can bring but they're not the only ones that watched him in these playoffs and I would think there's a lot of interest out there in his services.

We only need one more win from Dallas and of course they turn into a bottom dwelling conference team in the last two games. Are we so sure that this Rangers team wouldn’t have given a better performance than what we saw from Dallas last night?

With Zuccarello & Hayes or without?

I mean, the effort would've been there but we would've lost 8-2 or something with what we were putting out there in April.

Credit to zucc36 over at the Dallas boards:

Zucc confirms to norwegian media that his broken arm has prevented him from playing his best. He is most definetely not making excuses, but just states the facts. His arm has been going through freezing-treatment between games....

Asked about his future in Dallas, this is his answer:

I don´t know. I haven´t thought about it. It´s ten minutes since we lost and the season is over. It´s not just up to me either.
