7 Isle goals in the 3rd, their most goals in one period since Dec 3 1978 - vs the Rangers.

I think it's the first time a team has scored 7 goals since the Red Wings in the late 90's. Not at all positive about that though, I'm going off a distant memory of me seeing that in the morning paper.

Either way, that is insane. The Islanders didn't have Tavares or Vanek either. After that 3rd period Torts probably just started murdering people.

I would honestly get nothing out of Torts failing, if it wasn't for the Canucks fans smug comments early in the year on how unlucky we were to end up with AV and how much of a joke he was.

the thing that concerns me, is that AV when he was on those Canucks, even those teams had more grit and chippy in your face type players.. so i dont think AV is the problem for the lack of grit and toughness.. why did Sather get rid most of these type of players??

Don't lump us all in like that. I made a thread stating that AV was the best coach the nucks have ever had. I also said if fans got what they wanted and we fired AV (a top 10 coach in the NHL) that we would almost certainly find ourselves with an inferior replacement.

I certainly never predicted torts would be this bad, and he even started to win me over in the beginning. Sigh. Anyway, I'm going to go back to my vodka now.

at least you have players with grit and toughness. i dont recall AV not liking this part of the game :amazed: Rangers got rid of their players with grit and heart when he became coach... Habs have more grit and toughness than the Rangers :amazed:

So what is the best outcome for tonight in the Detroit/Columbus and New Jersey/Philadelphia games? Let's say the Rangers take care of business against Carolina tonight.

A DET win gives the Rangers a 5 point cushion on CBJ, with the Jackets having one game in hand. A CBJ win gives the Rangers a 5-pt cushion on the Wings, opening up that Wild Card backup a little more. A decent situation regardless of the outcome as long as it's not a 3 pt game.

As far as PHI/NJD, I think it's best actually to have Philly win. I want the Devils to get buried further. We need to see more teams drop out if we're all going to start breathing a little easier every night.

Other than that? Go Pitt, go San Jose. Possibly a 6 pt cushion on WAS with a game in hand + tiebreaker, and only 2 back of TOR with a game in hand + tiebreaker.

Yeah that "grit and toffness" is really helping the Canucks right now.

I could never root for the Devils, never. Probably not even in a 2011 Tampa Bay - Carolina situation.

i was talking about before Torts was hired..

they had guys like Darcy Hordichuk, Matt Cooke, Ryan Rypien, Tanner Glass, Shane O'Brien, Raffi Torres, Aaron Rome, Andrew Alberts, Maxim Lapierre, Aaron Volpatti, Zack Kassian, Tom Sestito, Keith Ballard, Kevin Bieksa

We are a borderline top 5 team in the East.

1.Boston
2.Pittsburgh
3.Montreal
4.Philadelphia/NYR

Boston: Build like a real contender team with smart picks, good trades and 4 lines that can make a difference

Pittsburgh: Draft lotteries and some good trades. Not a team to win play off games though

Montreal: Another team that is build through the draft with good management

How many players have we drafted in recent years that make a difference? Kreider is the only one that comes to mind. How many good trades have we had? How many trades have we benefited from? The Gomez-trade and the Gaborik trade made us stronger. Every other trade weakened us. Considering we have been working with Sather as our GM, it's a miracle we are a top5 team in the East.

You post this in literally every thread. We get it, you don't think we are tough. I prefer our win/loss record anyway.

Wow. 14 physical players over an 8 year period? Must be some kind of record.
