BEST OUTCOME

If anyone is saying now they know what is going to happen next, they’re lying.

I don’t think Tortorella is coaching Wednesday night in Winnipeg.

But that’s not a lock.

It’s in the Aquilinis hands now.

As I went over Saturday, if the Canucks had lost to the Flames there was a scenario in place where Tortorella could have been fired.

Ownership still has to be sold on the idea of eating his five year contract, and if they lost to the Flames, Gillis was ready to start the hard sell.

But now Gillis doesn’t have a loss to the Flames to hold up as the final straw.

What he has instead is one of the worst collapses in Canucks history.

Will the Aquilinis listen?

Seven goals, one period.

This, for a coach whose whole system is based around his team’s ability to keep pucks out of the net.

This, for a coach who chased out Roberto Luongo when he didn’t start him at the Heritage Classic.

It’s obvious Tortorella can’t come back next year.

You can’t oversee the disintegration of a team like this and recover.

The fans won’t have it. The players won’t have it. And even if you hire a new GM, there is no way he’ll have it.

If the Aquilinis can’t figure out the fury they’ll generate if they bring back Torts because they won’t pay the money it costs to eat his contract, they should leave the franchise at Bettman’s office.

None of this mean’s Gillis’s job is safe.

If Tortorella really had been his top choice, which he wasn’t, he should walk with him.

But first thing’s first.

Ownership hired Tortorella. Elliotte Friedman hinted on Saturday night something will happen in Vancouver. Season ticket renewals haven't been sent out. Someone is getting fired. Whether its Gillis or Tortorella or both. Kesler wants out. He doesn't like the coach. Ownership vetoed the Kesler trade last week.

Good reason why ownership should stay out of team operations. What a **** show, I had a feeling Torts would dry that team up. They've been pathetic offensively, I also didn't see the Canucks as a team that would buy into Torts personality much. Honestly surprised we haven't heard more complaining.

I'm surprised that they're struggling that badly. It's not a surprise that they're struggling to adapt to a new, drastically different system, but this is just crazy. Torts, despite being a jackass, has been pretty successful to this point. Didn't see this coming.

Artemis Anisimov is 1 goal away from tying Rick Nash with 20 goals and has 2 more points than Nash with 33. Anisimov with more points than Nash. Who would have thought that would happen lmao

Jeebus, I should've watched that Nucks/Piles game from the looks of it it seemed entertaining.

Saw this on ****** and thought this was lovely

No better sport then hockey, all class.

I'm sure it didn't occur to you that Nash has played 16 less games.

That had to be 12-23-78, 9-4 loss. To be fair, the Rangers went 3-0 against the Islanders the following month, including a 7-2 thrashing at the Coliseum.

Good find, 9-4, wait.... 94 !? ;)

'79 we beat them pretty good, after that people thought the Rangers could build on that finals appearance, but truth was both organizations were going in opposite directions.

For the record, if you normalized the numbers of AA and Nash for 64GP they become...

AA: 19G 14A 33P
Nash: 27G 15A 42P

Still pretty close point total.

Plus they also received Dubinsky, Erixon and Kerby Rychel who has 75 points in 55 in the O this year.

Let's be honest and say they received our chance to draft Mantha, Rychel, or Burakovsky. Not that it matters though, since draft picks only work out like .0012% of the time, and the Rangers blow first rounders every year, or something.. :sarcasm:

Brutal to think that this team could have plucked the two top scorers in the CHL in the same draft.

I am a fan of Rick Nash, but was he really worth 4 pricey assets? Maybe at one time but would you pay 4 high value assets for him? The market has changed since that trade went down, it amazes me how timing is never factored into most peoples evaluations regarding the past, present or future.

One thing for sure, its sure not "nice to see AA breakout" as someone said in this thread.

Jackets are a division rival. I want AA to fail as much as I want every Devil to fail.

That's for sure. That '79 team must have been fun. Young squad with old man Espo leading the way. I was too young to follow. I didn't pick up hockey until right before the '81 playoffs.

Ruff told his players that Peverley was alert (information which was quickly and thankfully relayed to fans and viewers), and took the temperature of the room to see if there was any chance of restarting the game. It quickly became clear that this wasn't an option.

"There's not one guy in that room that wants to play hockey right now and I'm not there to persuade them to play," Ruff said. "I don't want to coach a team right now."

That sentiment was relayed to the visiting Blue Jackets. "They're shaken and they want to reschedule," Columbus's president of hockey operations John Davidson said. "We understand that. They were shaken to the core."

Have to think he'll be out sooner than later. Also have to think this is Torts' last stop in the NHL. Back to TSN?

This. I also don't understand how being on pace for 42 points is "breaking out" when he had 44 points with the Rangers when he was 22 years old.
