maybe i'm in the minority... wouldn't this "injury" be the same as someone getting their head slammed into the boards and passing out? I've never seen a game postponed for that

I think az90 was inquiring on the game being postponed for heart scare as opposed to injury; If Peverly hurt his knee or was concussed the game would still be played. Why did they postpone game because of scare? Just me speculating on above post

Typically, and you'll likely agree that this is true, the player has already regained consciousness and displayed an ability to move their limbs when they're taken off on a stretcher after a bad hit. How many times have you seen a guy get boarded and leave the rink on a stretcher completely out cold? Peverley's heart literally stopped.

it happens. again, probably as often as this incident, but it still happens

Hurting a knee or suffering a concussion...those both suck. A player with an established heart condition collapsing on the bench? You're worried about the guy's survival, which is far more grave than a ligament tear or even a bad concussion.

Regardless, it's a.) a discretionary call, not a mandate to stop the game in situation X but not Z and b.) much more rare for a players heart to stop. The players were clearly more shaken up than they ever seem when a player takes a bad hit and the officials, somehow, reached a decision to postpone the game. I don't know if that involved uncertainty in Pev's situation, a consultation with the coaches of each team or what. It's what they decided. It may or may not seem necessary, but I don't see why anyone should actually care that this was their decision.

Damn, hope Peverly is alright. Just getting in and saw he collapsed on the bench. I didn't read back in this thread much, I'm sure someone posted an update.

Wow, the Canucks blow. Torts... what are you doing? Start the third leading 3-0" firmly, over the Isles. No Tavares. No more Vanek. Six rookies in the lineup. Islanders score four PP goals in a span of less than 6 minutes and lead 4-3 with 13 minutes still remaining in the third. Start the third down 3-0, lead 4-3 with 13 minutes still left in the third. How? How?

Edit: Canucks tie it. Both teams suck.

Holy ****, the Islanders take the lead 5-4 literally TEN seconds after Vancouver ties it.

Torts should resign. Seriously. Embarrassing. The Canucks need to blow it up. What a clown organization they've turned into, starting with the Scneider/Luongo business.

And it's 6-4. Most pathetic game I've ever seen. The Canucks have Sedins, Kesler, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Edler, Tanev, Garrison. They have no right to be this bad. They need to seriously tear it down. The Luongo saga was a joke. He should have been traded last deadline, Schneider should have stayed in Vancouver. Torts must be busting blood vessels.

This islander-Canuck game is crazy. Lucky Torts has a long contract otherwise he would probably be gone after a game like this. Never understood from the beginning how he would be a good fit in Vancouver?
Can't wait to listen to the Vancouver Canuck post game show.

Now everyone is starting to realize how the only reason he even lasted long with you guys is Lunqdvist or else he'd have been turfed a lot sooner. I always said he was a horrible coach playing a horrible style after he joined your team. The proof was when it took your team 7 games to beat the 7th and 8th seeds when you should have been able to take care of both in no more than 5 games and even then needing Lundqvist to stand on his head to avoid a 1st round exit.

or the canucks just suck and are imploding after losing lou, schneider and then sedin/burrows to injury

Meanwhile Anders Lee is like above point per game for the Islanders, which is just bizarre.

Him and Ondrej Palat....fantasy owners take notes for late round picks in the 2014-15 Fantasy draft.

As for the Nucks, it's time to make a decision. Rebuild with Torts or start from scratch. He did work very well with young players in NY (mostly) as well in Tampa. If they do it's going to be a five year process.

Hey at least Torts got the D...oh wait. The guy is not a good coach. He's lucky he had Henrik Lundqvist play the best years of his career under him and having a loaded team with TB. Hell he almost blew that cup as IMO the far inferior Flames who were a bunch of grinders + Iginla + Kiprusoff completely outplayed the Bolts and were robbed in game 6.

I know we as fans had a bitter divorce with Torts but to say he's an awful coach, I don't think is fair.

I'm forever grateful to him for establishing what he did in his nearly five years in NY and for incorporating young players into the lineup. Renney started it, Torts did it more. And that Atlantic Division Banner means a lot to me personally. Say what you will, but I can't stand going to all these arenas and seeing banner after banner after banner. Yes the ultimate goal is to win the Cup, but it's cool to have a few banners here and there. The Flyers and Penguins have too many. This team should win the division more than once every two decades.

Also, he won a Cup in Tampa with an offensive team in the clutch and grab era. That's pretty cool. And that team was no one hit wonder, they were on the upswing for about three years. He built an identity there that stayed with the team until St. Louis was traded here. That 2004 Cup is legendary.

You guys that are calling out torts should stop acting like tools, Seriously.

The guy is a great coach working with a GOD AWFUL roster of underachievers and dismantled in injury with a rookie goalie and NOBODY knows what the hell to do on the ice anymore.

He's won a cup, he's the most winningest US Born coach in history (at least last time i checked)

Yes he comes with strings attached. Most coaches do.
But no, You're right. The guy sucks. The team is not the problem. It's not like they were like 8+ games above 500 for months until the roster became crippled or anything.
