James Neal is at it again...

Exactly. The Rangers cannot draft players that fit their system, because the system changes every 5 years.

thats bunk. you draft players with talent.

speed, skating, hands, vision, creativity and hockey sense. not a word about toughness or fighting or physicality.

detroit never fights. they arent that physical. they beat you with offense, a good pp and sound positional defense.

they have skilled players and they draft euro skill that others dont see because they dont look at just the players size and rankings.

look at the players theyve taken after the 2nd round. its impressive

FWIW Orpik is just as bad and Malkin probably even worse and add Kunitz who may not be dirty but is a master of the sneaky cheap shot. Which is pretty much why I never jump on the I hate Crosby bandwagon--he's nowhere near as bad IMO as several of his teammates.

At this point, being a goon is a pretty big part of Neal's game. Wouldn't consider Kunitz, Orpik, or Malkin anywhere near how Neal plays. I'm not familiar enough with Neal's time in Dallas but it seems like he's really ramping up his ****** game. At this point, I'm pretty sure it's team philosophy for Pittsburgh to play reckless, especially when down by a few goals.

The part that bothers me about Sidney taking cheap shots and being a ***** is that he really doesn't need to (not that Geno does, either). Crosby could play a nice, clean game and he'd be the best player in the world that would garner near universal respect. Instead, it's easy to see that he's a sore loser and too commonly does cheap stuff out of frustration. If he was willing to back up his actions with his fists instead of his mouth, I'd have more respect.

james neal is an uber-******. Surely he's classed as a repeat repeat offender. What's the point of a $5k fine exactly? To a guy getting $5m per, thats nothing.

You people make no ****ing sense.

One week you complain that we drafted McIlrath, a player that fills a need for us, but not the BPA. You say, we should always take the BPA.

This week, you're mad that we don't take players that fit our system

I just saw Cally's goal from last night. I don't remember him EVER scoring a goal like that with the Rangers. What the?

Every time I start thinking that we should have given Prust that contract, he gets injured again.

It's not 'injured again', he's still injured and always will be (it's his shoulders). The Rangers and their medical staff knew his shoulders were held together by tape and string and have little doubt that played into their contract offer.

The Bruins look like they might win 11 in a row, 10 of which were in regulation. Honestly, they're the only team in the east that legit scares me. I mean I worry about the Pens, Flyers, Jackets etc. but the Bruins downright scare me. IMO, if they play the Pens, I'll be surprised at this point if the Pens win 2 games.

Rask has to be the front runner for the vezina. I mean who's his competition? Bishop?

Avs pull the goalie with over five minutes left, Bruins don't score an ENG, and Prince Chad gets a shutout.

People talk about Callahan's kind of game taking a toll on him. Looking at Prust's game, I would square it by a factor at least 4. I remember how much love Prust got for his fighting with NYR, and my view was that he fought way too much in his last season, and I liked the more effective Prust of the season earlier, where he was more dangerous as an all-around player, like a super-charged Blair Betts in his prime.

I was A-Ok with Prust going. I can't say that I knew anything about any long term injuries, but the Rangers did the right thing letting him go.

The definition of dirty play is all over the map. Just getting highsticked doesn't necessarily amount to much. A dirty player to me is a player who is always trying to seriously injure other players. He is a dangerous player. That's why Matt Cooke is dirty and Sean Avery is not. Losing a few teeth or getting beat up or getting cut doesn't rate with getting deliberately low bridged and winding up with an ACL problem or getting blindsided with a shoulder to the jaw and a concussion. It's the **** that ends seasons and careers.

You have a different definition of what a 'goon' in hockey is than I do. These days that label is applied for me to players like John Scott, George Parros, Eric Boulton, Colton Orr, Chris McGrattan, Cam Janssens, Jared Boll--frequent fighters and players of limited ability. And to me it's not necessarily a pejorative. Players like that can be useful in certain situations but in the lineup for a regular shift they don't work well. I hesitate more to apply the goon label to frequent fighters who have more hockey skills like Shawn Thornton, Chris Neil, Deryk Engelland, Brandon Prust--a group in which Milan Lucic is King--combining raw physical play with skill on the ice.

To me James Neal just strays over the line way too often in dirty play. Which is where Malkin is at--and if you don't think Evgeni rates with him in that area then you need to get up to speed. Several years ago that was brought straight home to me when he slew foot Paul Mara (a player I never particularly cared for) on two separate occasions on the same shift in a playoff game. Malkin has gotten away with slew foots and high hits his entire career. The NHL rarely has called him on it. OV is another dirty player IMO--a headhunter--though he's toned it down the last couple seasons.

Orpik is both a headhunter and a guy who will go for your knees--a dirty player--a player who won't face up for his actions. Shawn Thornton's frustration and actions against him this year in the game in which he blindsided Loui Eriksson who never really was close to the puck and which ultimately led to Orpik's concussion was entirely justified IMO. If you make plays like Orpik did on Eriksson you should be prepared to pay for them. Orpik has been getting away with those kinds of plays his entire career. He runs away--he turtles or he gets saved by his teammates. It was about time just for once he paid for it.

Refs should always call everything. If not, what is the point in having clearly defined rules? Most of the penalties are not subjective.

I've always hated that idea. If teams deserve calls, calling it IS letting players decide the outcome.

Plenty of calls are borderline. Obviously, if it's black and white, you make the call. But human nature causes refs to want to make a call any time anyone makes physical contact, and they have to assess impact to the flow of the play and overall temperature of the game.

I think it's time to wave bye bye to the #2 seed, Philly just doesn't lose anymore. Against possibly the best team in the league they'll likely win.
