Last 40 years:

Gretz, Lemieux, Jagr, Crosby, Ovechkin, (probably McDavid if he stays on the ice. Lindros likely would have been if he stayed healthy)

Bourque, Lidstrom

I've always gone back and forth on Lidstrom.

An excellent, franchise level player.

But also a guy who was almost perfectly situated by himself between the Bourque/Leetch/Chelios/Coffey years, and the Karlsson, Keith generation.

That's not to take anything away from him, but he didn't start winning the awards until his he was in his 30s when they guys who dominated the 90s all retired or slowed down considerably. There's a reason for that.

Yes, but "generational" is inherently defined by one's generation.

Can't change the meaning of the word because the guy is the only dog at the bowl.

Same reason I feel Lundqvist is generational. Absolutely abhorrent generation of goaltenders, but we can't change the rules.

A bad series will have no effect on his contract.

He had 12 points in 20 games post trade or a ~50 point pace or exactly what he's always been.

They probably didn't want to compete with the Masters in the mid to late afternoon. That plan went to shit as soon as the Masters moved up their itinerary due to weather.
