Yes, but "generational" is inherently defined by one's generation.

Can't change the meaning of the word because the guy is the only dog at the bowl.

Same reason I feel Lundqvist is generational. Absolutely abhorrent generation of goaltenders, but we can't change the rules.

Eh, I think that's stretching the term a little.

Not all generations are equal, and I think when most people think of a generational talent they're usually not thinking of default situations. They tend to be thinking of a guy that 30 years later, when someone asks for the all-time, NHL-defining players, that players name comes up.

i hate the term generational talent...it implies a once in a generation player. but then multiple players in the same generation are named
If it’s once in a lifetime. I’d go with Gretzky. Messier Howe Richard. Bossy. Orr Lemieux
Roy.

Last 40 years:

Gretz, Lemieux, Jagr, Crosby, Ovechkin, (probably McDavid if he stays on the ice. Lindros likely would have been if he stayed healthy)

Bourque, Lidstrom

Hasek
Messier 6 cups Second alltime scorer tough as nails. Orr. Bossy.
