For some reason, a Winter Classic in Dallas freaks everyone out because they think the ice will boil.

A warm January day in Dallas is 55 degrees. That's about what the temperature of the arena is...

True. However, the potential for warm, ridiculously warm, weather exists.

It’s 71 right now here in Charlotte.

I love how they get you all fired up for the game with the national anthem, and then switch to commercials to completely suck the life out of it

Yeah, pretty poorly formatted.

But the record stands. They are 1-5 in outdoor games. They won their second time around which was against the Pens in 2014, 5-1.

1-5 in outdoor games. Damn. But how crazy is it that they have as many outdoor games as Stanley Cup wins?

Gotta be totally honest....I didn't even know who was playing today...and I didn't watch the game...the Winter classic has lost it's appeal to me. Generally it's trash hockey with horrendous viewing angles.
I watched it and thought NBC did a decent job actually. The walk out of the tunnel with the teams, good use of ND music... the game cam seemed to be low enough but not too low and the overhead fly cam was used but not overused.

I didn't even watch it this year. I didn't even have anything better to do. I just don't care anymore. I have Winter Classic fatigue.

Winter Classic to me is a lot like how I watch the NFL. If my team is involved, I'm interested. If it's on in the background or a social setting, cool. Me using any energy and going out of my way to watch it otherwise, not happening.

I just don't get how people still have this amazement about it. The novelty wore off a long time ago. I actually like it less when there's inclement weather but at least in those situations, I can see people liking it because it's unique to this setting. Otherwise, who cares?

It's only really for the fanbases at that point.

Having attended both a Winter Classic and a KHL outdoor game, I can honestly say I prefer the KHL version. In 2017, they had Jokerit take on SKA and unlike the Winter Classic, where fans are a million miles away from the ice, here they built a rink and stands in a park.

It was a great experience and I feel that gives it a much more authentic feeling.

Going to the winter classic last year at Citi field was a lot of fun, froze my ass off, but it was worth it for the experience. It was also before the team started to fall off, think they were still in a playoff spot at that point. So it was exciting in that regard also.

But yeah totally agree, I honestly did not even turn on the TV today, no interest at all unless the Rangers or Tampa are playing.
