Milan lucic has 1 goal and 7 assists in almost 40 gp.

How....is....that.....possible.

Only 4 more years AFTER this one.

Oilers brass gonna try to quietly string a rope to Lucic's ankle with the other end tied to an ACME rocket pointed at outer space.

Sucks that LA is going to have a good shot at getting a top 3 pick. You should be barred from the lottery if you've won the cup in the last 10 years.
I had this idea of modifying the Crosby draft rules and making that the equation. Something like take the previous 5 years. Stanley Cups and top 5 picks remove percentage points from a base number. Missing the playoffs and the top 5 picks adds percentage points. For argument sake, say the worst team starts with 40% odds of the top pick and you go from there. Drafted twice in the top 5 over the previous 5 drafts? Minus 5% x 2=30% odds of the 1st. Redistribute those points to the teams not winning and not constantly getting top 5 picks.

I didn't even watch it this year. I didn't even have anything better to do. I just don't care anymore. I have Winter Classic fatigue.

Watched most of the first period. Saw the first two goals. We had to run and do some things in the afternoon yesterday, but even right before we left, we were watching the Fiesta Bowl with UCF, rather than Chicago again in a "Winter Classic".

Also, the NBC preview for it, had a clip of Emrick screeching "What a play!" If anything could turn off a non hockey fan, it would be his nonsensical, never ending screeching like a schoolgirl.

Oilers at 39 pts, lol at this league, NHL!

I get the whole free agency thing.

But it never ceases to amaze me how bad they are at finding NHL players outside of the first round.

All scouts are going to have their misses, but if you continuously employ people who can’t find you talent outside of the players most everyone has on their radar, you might as well use HF Boards as your scouting department.

You’d save money and probably produce as good as, if not better results.

I had a spreadsheet going for a while comparing the Rangers picks to if the GM had just bought the Future Considerations draft guide instead and taken their highest ranked player available at each. I think the Rangers were slightly ahead, but the difference in yearly budget made it a very close run thing...

Imagine being Vinnie Hinostroza here and even attempting to keep up with McDavid in a 1v1 race? Poor bastard.

Avalanche down 4-1 to San Jose halfway through the game. Well on their way to losing 6 in a row and 10 of their last 12. Yikes!
They need depth and better defense. That top line is only going to carry them so far this season. And as I type this, Lukas Radil (WHO THE f***) just scored his 5th of the season, which would be tied with Calvert for 8th on their team.

And there's Tyson Jost, who I still can't peg how high his scoring ceiling will end up being in the NHL.

It's always interesting to see if a GM is under pressure to win or not. I think given that MacKinnon is all of 23 there probably isn't a whole lot of urgency, but that cap situation is going to get out of hand eventually and you don't know how long you'll have that top line dominating as much as it had.

It'll be disappointing if they hold fast as it'll take a suitor for Hayes off the table.

Something I take for granted as a rangers fan is the pressure to generate revenue for some organizations. 31 thoughts was just talking about Dallas and a big catalyst to this "BS" scandal is that they have a high salary but rank 23rd in attendance. The owner really wants some playoff revenue and he probably doesn't really want to hear about drafting high every year and patience with prospects.

I don't really know where Colorado sits in those respects, but ownership won't carry infinite patience. They've been in rebuild mode for the most part since the O'Reilly and Duchene days.

I thought we were the kings (no pun intended) of blowing 2-0 leads but the Red Wings are seriously gunning for our title this year.

Brady Tkachuk has a bright future ahead of him.

And yet, as of today, the Sens face the very real possibility of their pick being used on either Hughes or Kakko.

Hello Brendan Smith for Martin Hanzal + Val Nichuskin

I think the thing I saw is 23rd in ticket revenue (not solely attendance, the Stars actually do decently well in that regard, they just have cheap tickets compared to most markets), but they make some of it back by being top-10 in corporate sponsorship revenue due to DFW having quite a few corporate headquarters.

Small peanuts, because the $$$ is the bottom line, but I’m a Texas hockey fan that gets triggered when Dallas gets lumped into the Arizona, Anaheim, Carolina and Florida group of “Teams with incredibly empty arenas”.

"As good as"?

Come on, give us a little credit here at HF - we'd certainly do better than the Oilers have. ;)

(Their trades are as bad as their drafting, btw)
