The Canadiens have acquired forwards Tomas Tatar and Nick Suzuki, and a 2nd round pick in 2019 from the Vegas Golden Knights (Columbus’ pick previously acquired by Vegas), in return for Max Pacioretty.

Trades a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to Detroit for Tatar. Who doesn't even play regular minutes for the Knights.

Then trades Tatar, a former 1st rounder in Suzuki, and a 2nd for Pacioretty.

Boy if Vegas doesn't extend Pacioretty that's a awful bad sequence of trades. Basically two 1sts, two 2nds, and a 3rd for a quarter season of Tatar and one full season of Pacioretty. Even if they do extend ol' Patches its still pretty bad.

Suzuki for me is the key to the deal if I'm a dirty Habs fan.

Vegas big time overpaid for Tatar in picks and took on a pricey deal

He’s a good player but didn’t fit there

I think Montreal as they rebuild made a very smart deal

They can come in last with Pacioretty or without him

Tatar, Gallagher, Domi, Drouin, Shaw, Byron.

Stacking up the small guys! Getting back to their roots

Good for Max though. Im happy for him.

Kind of crazy this went down a week from training camps opening up

This trade makes Vegas better, but as BruinDust brought up, a lot of value has been thrown away by McPhee. I was hoping Sweeney would somehow trade for Suzuki in the off-season. It really sucks that he's a Hab now.

Exactly what Montreal needs, another winger!

In all seriousness I'm surprised they even managed to get a Suzuki level prospect considering some of their prior deals.

No way Vegas doesn't extend Patches.

Suzuki is a small guy too, as I recall. And he wore #37 in juniors because he is a big fan of a certain Boston Bruin. I'm guessing the Habs are hoping that's who he turns into.

Moving on from Max seemed the right move for Montreal. If they were in a cup window signing him would make sense, but since they are rebuilding why would you sign a long term deal with a 30 year old winger who is coming off a bad year and never has really been a great playoff performer.

MTL looking like an "expansion" team(love it).
They should trade Price before the start of the season. . No playoffs for the Molsons...Nah nah nah nah nah nah...hey hey goodbye.....

P.s. Now maybe the bruins can sign. Seguin and Pacioretty... Well worry about the cap afterwards

I want them to keep Price because he screws them over in 2 ways.

1. He is good enough that they'll never be a true bottom barrel team and wont ever get real odds at a #1 pick

2. He is bad enough that the contract is the ultimate albatross. Paying a goalie $10m in his 30s ties their hands at being able to go out and improve in FA or trades.
