I think that at the beginning of the year every year going into juniors, NCAA, the AHL, and NHL, the players should sit through a workshop on the physical effects and consequences of PEDs, supplements, and recreational drugs, then from there just let them sign a waiver and do what they want with their own bodies.

At this point, who even cares anymore? Why do we feign anger when some minor league baseball prospect turns out to be a CHEATING CHEATER and is suspended 81 games for a trace amount of some kind of muscle building supplement you can buy as GNC?

They're grown men, let them do what they want and deal with the ramifications later.

Couldn't they do this for fighting as well? With all the CTE stuff coming out and such.

Trouba will command too much. I can see them shipping him out for a younger/cheaper replacement. For example, they could get a nice package from teams like Toronto for Jacob. Several teams would be interested in Trouba.

The salary cap is looming large for this team, though.

To expound on my last statement:

WPG has two more RFAs to sign in Morrissey and Comrie with 10 million in cap space. Plenty of room.
However, next summer they have:
UFAs - Brandon Tanev, Ben Chiarot, & Tyler Myers.
RFAs - Andrew Copp, Patrik Laine, Kyle Connor, Marco Dano, Jacob Trouba, Joe Morrow, Laurent Brossoit(G).

Tanev and Chiarot are not expensive, but Myers will be. They may keep him for a final run and let him go in FA.
Copp, Dano, and Morrow they can drop or resign for cheap as all three are making about 1 mill average right now.
Laine, Trouba, & Connor will be commanding big money unless they fall off the planet this season performance-wise. More than they have in cap space.

So someone will have to go. I think they will let Myers walk and cut some fat at the bottom of the roster to ink their two future stars.

Some want to use that impending cap issue to say Trouba will get moved. I think that's well-wishing on other teams fans. The only way that happens is if he decides to hold out again. Since that did not go well for him last time I think he will sign for 7 mil. He has not done enough yet to command more IMO. He is making 5.5 now so that is not a huge raise.

True, but they've gotta start somewhere I guess :dunno:

oh for sure, appreciate Kelly, appreciated him long before he became a Bruin but that franchise is an absolute mess right now but perhaps this is the beginning of putting things back together

Safe to say he's hung 'em up then? :sarcasm:
Going out on a limb there, don't ya think?

I liked him as a Bruin. Sad that it ended because of that freak broken leg.

Seemed like a good guy. Some of his interactions on Behind the B were pretty funny, especially with Marchand.

Having too many great players to sign is never a problem.

They will find a way to keep the one they want and if they can't keep them all, they will get great assets back for the one they can't.

Yea but I don't see a 'bad' deal (maybe Little) and its Winnipeg a team in that location has to worry about guys wanting out and leaving as UFAs with no return.

If they keep Myers, Laine, and Connor along with the guys already locked up the rest of the team can be vet minimum/ELCs. They have 27+ mil in projected cap space next year. I think they are in very good position.

Haha good thing none of their good players are Canadian because no star Canadian NHLer would agree to live in Winnipeg!!!!

Living in Canada we get a full dose of TSN whether we want it or not. It is everywhere - TV, radio, social media etc.. This pre-season is getting unbearable already. The amount of Leafs coverage and hype is absolutely incredible. Maybe the NHL should just step in now, and give them the Cup.

TSN and Sportsnet are already in a bidding war to see who can cover this year's Maple Leafs Stanley Cup Parade.

Duchene intrigued by free-agency route after watching Tavares

Matt Duchene's tenure in Ottawa could wind up being very brief, as the 2019 unrestricted free agent confirmed to reporters Friday that he and the Senators haven't had any contract talks yet.

"There's been some big things going on that obviously take precedent over that," Duchene told TSN's Frank Seravalli, potentially referring to the ongoing Erik Karlsson saga.

On Tuesday, Duchene noted that negotiations hadn't started and said it "would be awesome" if a long-term deal worked out with the Senators. He reiterated Friday that he is open to re-signing in Ottawa, but added that he couldn't help but watch John Tavares carve his own path in free agency this summer. Tavares signed a seven-year deal worth $11 million per season with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
