This is why we had to do the mcd trade when we did. What we got was leaps and bounds compared to this.
This can't be understated.
Despite the initial reaction, I have yet to see anything that has changed my mind that the Rangers did get pretty darn close to max value in that deal.
And EK65 >>> McD.Ek65 is for 1 run right now. Mcd is for 2.
True, but Karlsson is a top-3 defenseman in the league. McDonagh is not even close to that.
I remeber people made fun of Sakic for waiting so long to deal Duchene. Not anymore
Is he? He wasn't last year. I think the Karlsson package was a better package, anyway.

Especially considering how he's played over the past year and a half. Anyone who was watching knows he's not a 1/2 anymore.
Aren’t you the one that always says there’s a big discrepancy between the player Duchene is and what we expect him to be?Also shows you the domino effect of things potentially falling into place for Colorado.
And all this for a player who has not yet conclusively shown he's more than a 60 point player.
You'd take that EK package from San Jose over what the Rangers got?
Makes the return for McD even more impressiveTrue, but Karlsson is a top-3 defenseman in the league. McDonagh is not even close to that.
To be fair, the Ranger also traded Miller along with McDonagh

I would argue that Howden and Hajek are the best prospects to be moved in either of the deals. Is he? He wasn't last year. I think the Karlsson package was a better package, anyway.
Would you rather have
Best defenseman in the league
Or
Bottom 6 forward - 3rd line center who scored 40 points last year
Middle pairing dman
Center prospect - last years 1st rounder, also very good friends with Brady Tkachuk
.7 PPG AHL forward - In his rookie season in the AHL (which is pretty good)
1st round pick
2nd round pick
Even still, I highly doubt I'd trade Howden, Hajek, Lundkvist, Namestnikov, and a 2nd (potentially a first) for what Ottawa received. And that's taking into consideration that our return was acquired for a lesser player to begin with.

Prospects don't have more value, at least in a vacuum, than established NHL players.

I’m guessing he can’t wait to get out of Ottawa this year. Maybe he plays his ass off and tries to get traded?
