Crazy.

Have to hand it to Dorion. That's a great return for one year of Karlsson. Pressure is on SJ to win it this year.

When I heard about the trade, I thought that the ulikely scenario of a Rick Nash-like return would be hilarious... this is only marginally better for Ottawa.

Good god, what a brutal underwhelming return.

Is it that bad for 1 year of a player? I mean everyone knows he isn't re-signing.

Tierney is a very good 3C and 24 years old
Demelo is a NHL RD
Norris was their 1st rounder last year
Blazers had a very good first season in the AHL last year
2020 1st
2019 2nd
Plus (2) conditional picks (most likely conditional on Karlsson re-signing, but who knows what they are)

For me, a lot depends on what those conditional picks are but it doesn't seem THAT bad.

it almost doesn't matter the return because it all goes back to Ottawa and it's inept management screwing up the entire situation with Karlsson, the team in general, and going all in last season only to be terrible and turn around and say "well gotta blow it all up good thing we traded our 1st and didn't make it lottery protected"

Yes, it is bad.

EK is a generational player, the best in the league at his position.

Quality over quantity.

Is this even better than what we got for McD/Miller? Considering the disparity between EK and McD+Miller, I think Gorton did far better than Dorion here.

Maybe not horrible if he doesn't re-sign there and this is a rental, but still. It still seems underwhelming to me.

That's a silly condition. Why would SJ trade him when they're playing for a Cup?

It really isn't a bad return for one year of a great player. What are you expecting SJ to give up for a one year rental? They weren't going to trade Meier or Hertl unless Karlsson was coming extended.

Karlsson's coming to the Rangers next July.

Yes Gorton did do better. Dorion needed this to be over.

I didn't catch that the 1st is a 2020 1st. A friend pointed it out. So Ottawa still doesn't have a 2019 1st. Not that SJ had one to give, but still.

They received no top prospects and no impact roster players. The picks will be late as well. When you're trading E.K you need quality back.

It's an ok return under the circumstances. The problem is the circumstances were avoidable and comically self-inflicted.

It's amazing when you consider they were all in 12 months ago with the duchene trade. Now they are locked in for the worst team with no first, he's not re-signing and architects are still running the show.

And dorion took this package from SJ after getting embarrassed with the Hoffman trades.

I think Dorion remembers when they traded Hoffman to the Sharks and then Wilson flipped him to Florida lol.
