The Leafs piss me off. They got outshot 35-22 in the game against the friggin Sabres today yet they still find ways to win pretty often. That team should not have as good of a record as it has.

Did anyone else see that segment on CBJ broadcast where Dubi says something like "I've played in arguably one of the best buildings in the world (MSG), and this is better (Nationwide Arena)", with their 6000 fan attendance.

1.) Dubi - yes, saw that. Kinda disagree with it but it's a nice ad.
2.) Columbus averages 14,500/game

Was Dubinsky supposed to be referring to the actual building, or the atmosphere? If it's the latter, that's definitely questionable but the arena itself is very nice.

Toronto is a very well rounded team. Their only question mark is in net. So far Bernier has held up.

I think the Leafs are for real. Good coach, great offense, good goalies, skill, toughness. I think a lot of people discount them just because they're the Leafs.

They finished 5th last season, added some nice pieces during the offseason. I don't see anything surprising about their record this year.

I discount any team that gets outshot by a ridiculous 10 shots a game. That's bad for ONE game, much less 20 or so. That's ridiculous. They're talented though so they overcome it.

I have no faith in the Leafs holding up.

A team can only go so far with Tyler Bozak as their #1. That Clarkson contract is purely awful and will handcuff the team for years. Defense is too offensive minded, that will cost them in the playoffs. It isn't okay when your only true shutdown D is Mark Fraser. If Leino doesn't take that awful penalty with like 5 minutes to go, Buffalo wins that game, in my opinion.

This winning wont keep up long for them.

It's amazing what Jagr is doing at his age. I thought he'd be done, especially after seeing him struggle through the first few games. I suppose that was mostly a result of missing training camp, though. He's certainly proving any doubters wrong. He's basically carrying the Devils offense right now.

I agree with others here about the Leafs simply pushing so hard offensively that they overcome exposing their goaltender to a lot of chances. SOG isn't everything, but the Leafs won't get away with this the entire season. They do have some exciting and talented players to watch, though.

Some may forget that the Leafs had the B's on the brink...but alas let the foot of the gas . They have improved on that club...look for them to do something with Phaneuf as in either sign or trade him . Who knows...Sather might grab him for Girardi and then they both can resign back in their respective cities in the off season . TO gets a defensive stalwart for a playoff run...and we get a booming point shot and good PP guy along with some physical play in front of King Henrik .
:);)

That's a very interesting proposition, makes me consider what this team would look like with Pheanuf versus Girardi....

I just don't think it's a realistic scenario, not that you were implying that it was.

I'd take Phaneuf over Girardi 10x out of 10. I'm definitely one of the only ones that will however.

They're such different players, it will have a drastic effect on our lineup if it were to occur.

I'm just concerned with Phaneuf's defensive play. When he was younger, he would frequently put himself out of position for the big hit and his defensive skills were lacking. How about now? Has his defensive game improved over the years?

His defense has improved by leaps and bounds. But, like all top defensemen, he plays A LOT of minutes. And he doesn't have the best partners (his is usually Carl Gunnarsson, who's pretty mediocre). He would seriously benefit from having McDonagh or Staal as a partner. He does still do that leave position to make a hit BS however, but I trust McDonagh covering the ensuing rush over any Leafs d-man.

I remember in a WC a couple of years ago when a Swedish announcer was ripping Phaneuf for his defensive every game. He is a better player today and I will take him over Girardi all day.
