Shea Theodore, younger and cheaper just hitting his prime and he's an amazing 2- way defender. Also his contract is amazing.

I think moving Theodore in a deal for Eichel would be a pretty big mistake. Theodore is a huge part of their defense and if you take him out of the equation I think it’s pretty pedestrian.
Trading Theodore would be such a massive mistake it could set them back a few years. That's why I fully expect it to be Patches.

Ok, so neither Theodore nor Pietro go back. Where are they clearing this cap space for Eichel? Buffalo will not want old vets in their final years. A guy like Pacioretty doesn’t move the needle much for value to Buffalo.

Patches can be flipped again for picks. He wouldn't be worthless for Buffalo. And he'd have the biggest effect towards the caphit based on his 7mil.

Exactly. This is why feels like needs to be Theodore and Tuch as starting point.

Eichel will go on LTIR, when is he even expected back? Vegas wouldn't need to clear much space immediately.

Vegas would obviously move Dadonov before Theodore. Or Reilly Smith. If they move Theodore in this deal, they are idiots, simply because that would be bad value and from a cap perspective, they don't have to.

Smith and Tuch are the only forwards making significant money with no trade protection. I'd wager just about every partial NTC has Buffalo on that list.

They have a whopping $75mil committed to 12 players next season. Adding Eichel would put them upwards of $80mil depending on who the roster players that are involved. Vegas would essentially be moving all in on this season and betting it on a guy who will have gone a year without playing a game and will be coming off of a neck surgery.

Exactly this. People are really overstating the amount of cap that they would need to shed for this season. At the moment, they can add $5.765M to the roster and be compliant. Which means that they would need to clear about $4.235M in space to fit Eichel on the roster. Making Dadonov part of the deal creates more than enough space. Eichel would then immediately be moved to LTIR so that they can move the currently LTIRed players back on to the roster when they are ready. The recovery timeline for Eichel if he gets the procedure he wants (as stated by his agent and an independent doctor on Marek's radio show) is somewhere in the 4-6 months range. That means that there is basically no question that they can leave him on LTIR for the entire regular season and then bring him back for playoffs. They can get Eichel for a playoff run this season without subtracting anything more than a 3rd line winger from their roster. If Stone goes on LTIR, then they wouldn't have to move anyone in order to acquire and then LTIR stash Eichel.

The issue comes in dealing with the cap next summer, but moving a salary without creating huge holes is easier in the summer than mid-season. Guys like Tuch, Marchessault, Karlsson, and Pacioretty are positive value contracts at the draft or early summer with no or limited trade protection (10 or fewer team no-trade lists).

Vegas is going to have to put together a very strong futures-value package to get it done, but they don't need to gut their current team to make it work.

They only have cap space bc Tuch and Patches are on LTIR. They won't have space to add when healthy, but they could strategically use LTIR to get to playoffs.

Atchimg Calgary Nashville game and those teams both look terrible. Like players have never met their line mates and teams have no offensive structure. Some nice individual players, but…

I would love to poach Hanafin from Calgary, and to a lesser extent Myers from Nashville, but I don't think either is likely.

Han if an would be great, but don’t see him as available. Myers though seems like he has been scratched regularly. Unclear whether he is hurt, but really struggled last year. Could be worth a shot as buy low guy at some point but not clear that he could be more than 3rd pair guy if even.
