Around the NHL: Congrats Hawks on winning the STANLEY CUP

Just for the record, for over a year and a half, I've been telling everyone to watch the smart way Chicago does it, not standing pat, not afraid to trade, not afraid to give young players a shot.

As is often the case, I was given grief, esp. since their G was so off last year, their approach could not possibly be good, could not have any interest or use to us. Lets look at the Bruins.

Once again, bernmeister, who doesn't get em all right, is proven more right than wrong.

Would you have said the same thing if the Red Wings win game 7 against the Hawks?

The smart way Chicago does was when they decided enough of mediocrity and draft talent from the top 3. They picked up Toews and Kane (and Barker lol). Rangers fans and management will never tolerate losing, which I don't understand why. It's pretty much the only way to win unless you have elite drafting. Which the Rangers don't.

So I guess you are right Bern, you always request to trade for 1st overall picks/high drafted players and I agree, you can't win without them.

No, Chicago didn't build their team with wildly ludicrous, ridiculous, unrealistic trades.

I don't remember Hawks tanking. I remember them actually outright sucking for a while.

They didn't intentionally lose games, but they rolled the worst first line in the history of the game during the season Toews was drafted. Bell-Arnason-Calder. The rest of their team were rookies and fringe NHLers. They also struck gold by winning the lottery, despite being only the 5th worst team. The point is, the easiest and most efficient way to get high end talent, especially forwards is through drafting in the top 3.

Knew the tanking/draft rebuild talk would rear it's head.

It has nothing to do with "We're NY".

It has everything to do with Henrik Lundqvist.

He is the anti-tank. All these "tanking" teams had something very similar in common. **** goaltending. We have one of, if not the best, goalie in the world.

We want the Hawks/Penguins/Ect, get rid of Lundqvist.

Anybody want that?

Teams are built block by block, you want to do it in one fell swoop, will not and cannot happen that way.
Keep them short, reasonable and realistic.

Yeah. I'm tired of mediocre results. And I don't think they're last with an average goalie. They're gonna need to dismantle their whole roster, which includes Nash, Callahan, Staal, Girardi, etc to get a high pick for many years IMO.

imagine having a fourth line that you can actually put on with a minute left in the game..

We got great first line talent. We had three terrific 1st line players going into this year. Really, if all of our top six had AT LEAST duplicated their performances from last year, we would have been one of the highest scoring teams in the league.

But, Gaborik and Richards kinda forgot what hockey is.

I'd prefer they keep to the plan.

I sure wouldn't mind seeing 2 Cups in 3-4 years time and I really don't care how it happened if the Rangers won them.

I don't think anybody would. But theres a reason why that is not in the cards with us right now. That reason is the second greatest draft pick in Rangers history.

We'd have to trade away literally every NHL-ready/established asset for it to even begin to start happening (not saying that's a possibility either though). Hell, I bet we could get Chad "Ochoprince-o" Johnson back from Phoenix.

Just trade Lundqvist. I personally don't want that.

If it'd mean a future of Cup-winning teams, I wouldn't blink twice between sobbing and hyperventilating. He'd inevitably win on whatever team he went to anyway, not like it would matter. Win/win IMO.

The fact is, the Rangers did win the lottery in 2000. The chances of us ever doing that again are essentially zero. It'd be so hard to just throw away that which SO many teams chase year after year after year. Especially with no heir apparent in the system at all.

But it's a moot point anyway. They didn't go out and hire AV to rebuild.

I've accepted that I won't see the Rangers win another Cup in my lifetime. 11-12 was their best chance, and I really don't think this core has what it takes to last to the finals and win.

At least we'll get to revel in more 2nd round losses and "We're only 1 or 2 pieces away! Next year is our year!" and regard it as progress.

This team has holes, and lord knows I've been hard on them, but I want to see what AV can do.

Stay classy Boston, lol

Imagine clearing Out your building, leaving another teams fans to own your
joint. Booing Tha Champs celebragging. Couldn't have happened to a Better city. LOL, wonder what tripe Edwards was spewing after the atm Day Boston just "enjoyed."

I think you may have a different perception than the rest of us. If the Hawks traded Keith, Seabrook, and Sharp for draft picks and won the Cup with Dougie Hamilton and Nail Yakupov I would say you would be "proven more right than wrong".

They were booing Gary Bettman. Not to mention if there was ever a year he deserved it, it was this year. Thought that clown may actually have learned to stay out of the limelight and stop ruining the best moment in the sport.

Or we have a healthy Marc Staal and two second liners without torn shoulders, plus a different coach, plus more experience for our burgeoning 1C instead of crying about tanking for high picks.
