Elliotte Friedman mentions at it all the time, and it definitely applies to the Oilers. It's tough to pin the blame one person when things are going that poorly. The goalies are struggling, the supporting cast is coming up short, the stars are under-performing, and the coach doesn't know what to do.

Sure, go ahead and criticize Woodcroft. He could be doing better job, but he's in a tough spot.

Jack Campbell is the ghost of Christmas future for Tristan Jarry.

Funny and true. Campbell got an almost identical contract as Jarry.
This goes to show you that you cannot pay this much money for this tier of goalies even if the barren market dictates such price. Go the cheaper route and when you can CLEARLY upgrade, then you make the move either trade or FA.

And while last night was a freak injury for Jarry, it goes down as another brick in the wall that he's not reliable/healthy for stretches.

What stupid ass contracts this will turn out to be for Pitt and Edm

Just saw an infographic from the NHL on social media... Henrik Lundqvist made 1688 saves against the Pens - the most against any franchise - over his career. I'm sure the Bylsma and Johnston years inflated his stats.

Calen Addison traded for a fifth round pick. Is Guerin being stupid or the Pens dodged a bullet by trading him while he had some actual value?

Campbell is way worse than Jarry and was before he got that deal

Small dman who can’t defend, not worth all that much.

Holy shit, Klingberg is so bad. The Leafs 4th line and Klingberg on the ice at the same time is as automatic a goal against as I can ever remember seeing.

Yea that was the worst offseason signing for me and it’s been even worse than I thought it would be

Stutzle kicks ass. I dunno if Ottawa's ever gonna become a legit Cup contender, but they're a fun team to watch, win or lose.

Apparently he's all offense and could care less to improve at defense.
Kind of like all our defensemen we keep targeting (Pouliot, Morrow, Addison, Smith).

It's almost like you should probably draft defensemen who obviously have offensive upside, but aren't a complete wreck in their own zone.

McDavid and Draisaitl produce at rates like Geno's '09 Cup run.

McDavid and Draisaitl have had playoff efforts as good or better than any Sid and Geno put together.
I'm having a hard time digging up the thread, but someone looked at #s and the '09 run was the most impressive because Sid and Geno had a way lower % of points on each other's goals (or goals they both assisted on) compared to McD and Drai. it was something like 36% to 56% or something. So yeah, the point totals are nasty, but like others have said, they weren't elevating the games of shittier players like Sid/Geno in 09.

I feel like there's this compulsion to defend the legacies or achievements of Sid and Geno whenever talking about McDavid and Draisaitl, and there's just no need. Nobody's gonna look back on the career of McDavid and Draisaitl and confuse their accomplishments with those of Sid and Geno. But in a purely offensive sense, McDavid and Draisaitl have done everything Sid and Geno have, maybe more so. The thing is, not even guys who produce like that can overcome a miserable blueline and full on laughable goaltending situation. Hell, we saw the same thing for years with the Pens. /shrug

Edmonton's a goofy, unserious organization that will be remembered for wasting the careers of two superstars in their prime by hitching their wagon to goalies like Mike Smith, Jack Campbell, and Stuart Skinner.

Yea call me when somebody puts up 36+ playoff points playing with players like Talbot and Fedotenko at even strength again.

Just watched the Galchenyuk police car footage… Embarrassing.

Using the n-word, threatening to kill wives and daughters. Man, I’m glad he’s gone.

Saw it as well. Gotta think that he's pretty much done in North America. He'll likely have to find a job in the hockey world in Europe. Whether it be development coach or whatever. No one will hire him in any capacity on this continent
